UFC 94 - Aponte Training Systems
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:00:17 PM »

From the desk of  Tony Aponte, Aponte Training Systems.

It’s very hard to say anything with all this madness. If I don’t the hate mail won’t stop about the BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre fight. Our site is getting overwhelmed with emails wanting an explanation on BJ Penn’s conditioning. The questions asked to Aponte Training are “Why wasn’t he in shape?” “Why was his body fat so high?” “Why wasn’t he big enough?” “Where is BJ’s muscle?”

First off, I want to say we did not prepare BJ Penn for the Georges St-Pierre fight. Due  to previous commitments we were not available to be on the island to train BJ in person. We were told he was following our exercise and strength conditioning program. He did not; I don’t know what he did, I haven’t spoken to him since the fight. BJ Penn and his family have been dear friends of ours for years. But we must act as professionals who take pride in what we do and represent Aponte Training. The rest is not our business. The Vaseline, the camps going crazy… that’s not our concern nor a topic that concerns us. What does concern us are the fans and the athletes. Fans and Athletes who know when you hire us we work so very hard to achieve the reputation of a top notch and world class organization. We have a combined 45 years in the health, strength and conditioning fields with a vast of knowledge of nutritional conditioning. We have years of hands on experience and a team of the finest well educated professionals that are dedicated to their work and constant pursuit of perfection. The athletes we have worked with are not only in MMA but are in many different fields of pro sports, Olympic Weight Lifting, Olympic Power Lifting, Pro Bodybuilding and preparing NFL players. Our athletes have been awarded with the highest honors and top awards in all these fields.
The problem we run into is a lot of MMA fighters think they can get away with being in “Okay” shape.  High body fat or worse, they are uneducated about athleticism, nutrition and strength. That’s the real lesson here. BJ Penn and Randy Couture are the most talented fighters in the MMA industry. They are very well accomplished in the areas of martial arts, wrestling and many forms of MMA. But all MMA fighters must realize that Strength, Brut Power and your very best conditioning will give you the biggest edge, Period! I believe BJ needs to be in top condition, between 165 and 168 lbs but 4 to 6% body fat, Penn can accomplish this! My bro has to do it all. He must become a conditioned beast. He must bring up his push power, lower his body fat and incorporate the very best conditioning his body can handle. Beyond that, I believe if BJ can do this then it will be skills against skills when Rush tries to take Penn down. It’s not easy if Penn's strength is almost equal to Georges’. It would be a fight to remember, a war that will REALLY want to see. I would have to give the edge to Penn because of his skill over Georges and his team. Georges’ team beat BJ Penn that night on every round, no question. But he did not beat (and probably couldn’t beat) the very best BJ Penn. This is a scientific conclusion. I also know that Rush has the very best people in the game on his team. They know their business, I commend them for doing a fantastic job. I know the strength coach saw the lactic acid getting ready to shoot to the top of the shoulders. After that they overwhelm him with power and super fast paced conditioning, the rest is history.
I want everyone to know what was up. I believe George is a pillar and a great champ. I'm not making any excuses but I wanted to clear the air about the conditioning and strength issues that weren't as 'There' as we would've liked them. Today’s UFC athletes are in top shape, especially when you’re facing a person that’s all athletic with top notch conditioning. Today your game and conditioning are essential. I wish my brother BJ the very best and I again would like to congratulate Georges “Rush” St-Pierre and his team.

BJ, can we get in shape and show the world what’s F&%$#ing up? When you’re ready to beat this guy call Aponte! Now is the time Kid.

Thank you all for your time, we wish you all well.

Sincerely,
Pro Trainer, T. Aponte

From the desk of Aponte Training

I’d like to start out by saying today is the day to see two of the greatest Warriors come to the cage! History will be made however the fight turns out. Penn is ready like never before. We at Team Penn would like to thank all the fans, UFC and Dana for making this happen. Pre-Fight preparations for Penn have been made accordingly. We have put some muscle on Penn. When you see him he will look thicker. He is 100 % hardcore natural so the improvements aren’t as drastic looking as ‘per say’ with someone that is an ectomorph. Penn has a slow metabolism so I’ve had to adjust that to be incorporated into his MMA daily workouts. I can’t disclose the science of it, that’s my secret. ‘Nutrition and Heavy’ this is the key. Heavy power movements will put on natural muscle very fast. I’ve developed this over the years. He has been on this program some time. I’ve taken this MMA guy and incorporated a lot of power movements into his MMA program. He has also been trained by one of the best retired pro standup boxers Jason Parillo. He’s been training like a mad man with World Champ Adam Disabdo for wrestling. (George’s wrestling is outstanding) Muay Thai training with the legendary Rudy Valentine. We know George is a great fighter; we also have the utmost respect for him. What you see is entertainment. When the fight is over the war is over. When you compete at this level its War!!! If you think Penn is not in shape, think again! I’ve been manning BJ’s nutrition since the Pulver fight, BJ is a changed man! I’ve taken steps along with the team mentioned above to insure BJ has a ton more punch power and overall better performance. He will catch George or anyone he hits now. If he doesn’t knock them down something will break.
I’ve been studying nutrition strength and conditioning for over 20+ years.
Each fight Penn will get better and better and if he makes a mistake, he learns from it. The guy hasn’t had a drink in over 2years. This is the Penn everyone has been waiting for!! He’s putting all on the line! Win loose or draw, guess what if we lose Penn will keep coming back until he does it perfect. This guy is so tough (let me tell you) he really is the ‘Prodigy’

George is an awesome awesome athlete. This guy is serious. I’ve dedicated most of my life to helping athletes perform at their very best in the areas of strength training, Nutrition and conditioning. BJ is as ready as he’ll ever be! Me and all the trainers mentioned above have done our best in all our areas, to prepare. And now as Bruce says “It’s TIME!” We did our best and feel that BJ is ready! I’ve made sure his nutrition is top notch and he will perform faster hit harder and has newly developed power. He is now in the best shape he has ever been in. Sherk, who to me is right up there with George and Lesner are the best athletes along with Heath Herring. Excellent athleticism! We beat Sean to the cardio master. No doubt this is our toughest fight ever. “A Crush” is no joke (let me tell you) when Penn hits a heavy bag it’s scary, so watch tonight, It will be a war to say the least!! Penn’s new hands are like bricks! When putting on this new found weight some people look more ripped and fit thin skin types. Like George and some people like Penn are still 9% or so body fat. But Hawaiians are “Thicker” skin types, totally different genetics.

I hope this clears things up guys. BJ is so tough. I torture this guy so trust me, people think they want to train with me. It’s not pretty but I guarantee better performance or a 100% refund. So make what you will of that. BJ Penn is in the best shape of his life!! Team Penn we are bringing it!!

Again thanks to all the fans! I’ve been slammed so be patient I have two web masters trying to keep up. I will always get back to you. Athletes and fans are always welcome for questions. I will be giving seminars soon, watch our message reader board.
My site; www.specificfitness.us.

Best wishes and thank you all. God bless, see you guys tonight (hopefully) looking at my long time friend BJ Penn holding two belts. The top picture is one of the greatest champs I’ve had the pleasure to work with posted in Times Square. I’m just beside myself. Hello NYC my home town!

Thank you all again!
Sincerely
Tony Aponte

Mods can you ban the OP? He trained BJ and therefore cheated many good people out of their money and disgraced the sport. We don't need his types around here.

Actually I talked to Tony about a few hours ago and found out he didn't train BJ for this fight.  He will come on here and explain.  Tony is a straight up guy and has trained many champions in many different sports.  We all know (who actually know BJ how much mental support he needed for this fight.  Nothing negative is allowed to be around BJ.  Especially for this fight.  ONLY positive support is around him.  You have to get his mental state up.  But once he hit the ring and saw that GSP was just so superior in size and strength it immediately deflated him.  What BJ needs to do is work on his mental strength and get into and stay in the "zone".  He needs to start not relying on his natural talent and start working on his mental strength.  He needs to keep his attitude he has before the fight while he is in the ring.  Hopefully he will get it together cause he is awesome when he has it all together.  But GSP was just way to strong and heavy and skilled for BJ.

BJ needs to work on his humility first and foremost. He is as classless as Tyson was when he talked about killing peoples kids etc. We all know he doesn't have any heart, but to say you are going to literally kill a respected guy like GSP and then show up not ready to fight, but to collect a paycheck is unacceptable.
