Some lived beyond their means.

Others were well within their means - when they had a job.

Our entire economy is based upon tourism and construciton - and both are dead.

Besides, if you keep abandoning these places, it ends up becoming cities of vagrants - leads to crime, infestation, disease, etc, and eventually it'll spill over into your suburb.

If I were you, I would start a small cleaning/maintenance company and contact all the banks who own the foreclosures.

Charge a small monthly fee for upkeep etc and you will make $$$$$ very quickly.

well maybe your city should diversify tourism lulls and construction can only go on for a limited amount of time so this was bound to happen to your city sooner or later...again you should probably move.

Charge something like $50 - $100 a month or whatever. Put a brochure together and get on the phone.

You can even look up other companies that do this and get sub-contract work from them.

Take the initiative. Dont wait for anybody and make the first step.

U'll also need to get licensed and insured which is minimal. This is a good idea. My GF has her own cleaning business and I'm going to suggest this to her. She used to do plenty of new builds, I guess this is the reverse.

When I started my business, I literally had school debt and $700 to my name, no clients, nothing.

I hit the pavement, made phone calls, etc. I tried, I really pushed open doors and took the initiative.

Now, I am getting busier by the day. It was tough, but I know how to get beyond these brain funks that stop people from acting.

Its all a mindset.

I am not a brain surgeon. But I do have street smarts, perseverance, and initiative.

that's very cool. I *used* to be that way, until i saw the city crapping out around me. I realize that, fair or not, you gotta help some folks. you let them die on the street and they turn into diseased criminals very quickly.

I am not a money freak BTW. I like my freedom in working for myself and value that over the higher salary I could make working for a large law firm.

I also like working at my own pace and not be a corporate slave and tool.

Plus, not many companies want to a hire My Cousin Vinny to be in their corporate suites.
