Before the NFL shifts its focus to this week’s scouting combine in Indianapolis, there still is one final matter to address from Super Bowl XLIII.

Let history show that Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes‘ six-yard, game-winning touchdown catch in Super Bowl XLIII cost him $10,000.

Within the past few days, Holmes received notification from the NFL that the league was fining him $10,000 for using the ball as a prop, a league source said Wednesday.

Moments after Holmes reeled in the pass, dragged his feet and scored the decisive touchdown during a 27-23 Steelers victory, the Steelers wide receiver impersonated LeBron James and tossed the football in the air the way James does chalk dust.

Though Holmes’ violation did not draw a 15-yard penalty that could have been crucial for Arizona, the league admitted it was reviewing the Steelers wide receiver’s transgression. And once it did, it found that he violated the rule for using the ball as a prop.

When replays of Holmes catch are shown in the decades to come, it also should be noted that officials missed a call that cost the Steelers wide receiver $10,000 and the Cardinals 15 yards that they could have used on an attempted winning drive.

Rules are rules, plain and simple.

The game is over and done with. But who knows how well that extra 15 yards could have helped Arizona on that final drive. Nice job refs! Another Steelers Superbowl win tainted by bad officiating.

yes every bitter fan owned by the mighty steelers blames the refs, typical of sore losers

if the cards had that extra 15 yards, warner would've fumbled 15 yards closer to the end zone

oh and bad officiating is not being aware the play clock struck ZERO :-*

What's stupid about this is fining him, thus adding validity to a questionable missed call

Not really bitter at all. But a missed call is a missed call. On the biggest stage in the biggest game, missing a call like that is inexcusable by the referees. And the fact that the NFL is fining Holmes three weeks after the fact is just plain stupid. The NFL should just admit that the call was missed and leave it alone and not fine Holmes at all.

Fining him long after the fact is retarded and it exemplifies that there was obvious mistake that was missed that might have had a difference in the final result of the game.

And my team has won a Superbowl, thank you. 1 time champion. And it wont be 25 years until the Ravens win another one, thank you very much.

I love how the Steeler fans count the six championships like they happened in the last decade. Most of you were an itch in your daddy's pants when they were winning their first four in the Knoll era. Then you went through a 25 year dry spell. Too funny...

Since 1996 when the Browns were stolen from Cleveland and moved to Baltimore the Steelers have had more titles and playoff appearances.

The patriots are clearly the team of the decade.  3 titles in 4 years, 5 AFC championsips, the only 16-0 season in NFL history, numerous postseason and statistical records. The steelers are the greatest franchise of all time in regards to sb's.

Hey Rick Martel, the Colts were stolen from Baltimore and moved to Indianapolis. What's your point?

You use the word 'titles'. Since the Ravens became the Ravens, the Steelers only have one more title than the Ravens in the last decade.

The Bears?? That's comical Body88, it really is. The Washington Redskins belong on your list off all time franchises over the Bears. 3 Lombardi trophys and 5 appearances in the Super Bowl era. 'Nuff said. Take away that '85 season and what else is left?

No their not. It was proven that the Patriots did not participate in any illegal actions during any of their sb's.  Matt Walsh the guy who outed spygate said this, lol.  Several people lost their jobs at the Boston herald for reporting on a false story that was investigated and found to be 100% false.  The herald appologized for the story.  Say what you want about the pats, but their 3 sb's and 16-0 season are 100% clean.  How would the pats tape signals at games like the 2004 AFC championship game when they went in to PIT and smashed them in their own house 41-27?  The facts are this....During their sb's and during the playoffs it was proven that there was nothing illegal going on with the pats.  Also, they went 16-0 after spygate. 3 sb's in 4 years +16-o = by far the best team of the salery cap era.  Add in the playoff numbers and its not even close!

You better hope there is not a Mitchel report in football, the Steelers will be half the list!

Boston Herald Apologizes For Spygate StoryBOSTON (WBZ) ―

The Boston Herald has apologized for reporting that the New England Patriots videotaped a walkthrough by the St. Louis Rams one day before the two teams played in the Super Bowl in 2002.

In the apology, published in the newspaper's Wednesday edition and posted on its Web site, the Herald said it now knows that the report was inaccurate and that no tape ever existed.

The apology came one day after former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Walsh told Goodell that he did not tape the walkthrough and had no knowledge of any other Patriots employees having done so.

The Herald said its Feb. 2 story, published one day before New England's 17-14 Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, was based on "sources that it believed to be credible."

But that article, written by John Tomase, actually cited just one source.

Later Wednesday, Tomase said on his blog, "I know I screwed up on the Rams taping story and I don't intend to hide behind today's apology or an editor's note."

Tomase said he will explain his actions later in the week.

Here is the key line in the article:

"According to a source, a member of the team's video department filmed the Rams' final walkthrough before that 2002 game."

The Herald did not identify the source.

In the apology, the newspaper said it did not view or possess a tape of the walkthrough and should not have published the allegation without "firmer verification."

Patriots owner Robert Kraft held up a copy of the paper during an interview with CNBC on Wednesday.

He called the story "very damaging" and said he was glad the Herald admitted it's mistake. But he said the paper's apology probably couldn't undo the damage to the team's reputation nationwide.

"This erroneous story coming out was really harmful and what bothers me more about this story is where it went, throughout the country, where people don't know us as well," he said. "And unfortunately, now they won't see this retraction. But people who know us, know what we're about."

Kraft said the team has done an audit of its procedures to make sure everything complies with NFL rules.

"We, our people, broke a rule the first week of the season," he said. "Since that time, there has been no team in the history of sports who has been under more intense scrutiny. And we were able, over the next 18 weeks of the season to go 18-0."

You dont spend a lot of time looking at what people say do you, chief?  Slow down and read what I wrote.  I said the pats a the best team of the salery cap era and the Steelers are the best team of all time.

Ill say it again:

Pats are the team of the decade/salery cap era

Steelers are the best team as a whole over the history of the NFL

Pats = 3 titles in 4 years and 16-0 in the salery cap era

Steelers = 2 titles in non consecutive years

Pats = smashed the Steelers on their own field in 2004 in the AFCG

pats = better in salery cap era

Steelers = 6 titles over their history

Steelers = way more consistant and great over the long haul

Pats = 3 sb's

Steelers = best team in the history of the sport, by far.

you are bitter and like i said warner would've fumbled 15 yards closer to the end zone

the baltimore browns have one super bowl, when they were in cleveland they won zero

who cares that it took 25 years?  it's still more than any other team and they now have two in 4 years

the montreal canadiens have 23 stanley cups but haven't won one since 93, should we say the red wings have a better history since they won 4 since then, giving them 11 total?  i don't think so

there is no guarantee your team will ever get back to the super bowl, let alone win it
