Come on, Goatboy, that is pretty low, even for you! QV is still Melvin's partner.

"Partner" is fine, but "fiancee" implies that it has the same status as real marriage, which of course it doesn't.

Well, Melvin's partner should be off limits to Getbiggers. Fair is fair.

I disagree.  Fag "partners" are not "family" is the way a wife would be.  They shouldn't be afforded any greater protection than anyone else's friends would be, and last I knew there was no getbig prohibition on picking on someone's "friends".

Three years later, it's shut down.  People got sick of it.  Minimum wage 150lb trainers telling you what to do, stupid rules about not making any noise while you worked out, extended contracts which people couldn't get out of.

IMO, if gyms want to survive this downturn, they're going to have to cut this crap out.

In a tough economy, when people are worried about their jobs, no way are they gonna sign a long term contract with no escape hatch.

Yes, contracts are a necessary evil in many businesses. Virginactive are going to change that and make it easy to join and cancel their memberships. This is proving to be very popular in Australia where clubs can get bad reps because of TV programs investigating complaints, etc. Sir Richard Branson is quite popular in Australia and recently was in the news launching his new fitness club in Sydney. I think consumers are interested in what Sir Richard is up to so come along and have a look. When they see the quality on offer they quickly sign up. Imagine how easy it is to sell a membership there? The salespeople tell you that all it takes to cancel a membership is 3 days notice. That is going to change how gyms do business in Australia. It is about time, too, because so many people join up with good intentions and then drop out soon after only to find they have to keep paying or have lost the rest of their membership if they joined for 6 or 12 months. If clubs can get sufficient volume they will be fine. Sir Richard knows his model works because it operates successfully in Europe and South Africa.

I can tell you that word of mouth is spreading and the word is out that Virginactive is a great place to go to. That is what every gym owner dreams of.

Every one of us probably has an idea about how to set up a great fitness club. It isn't as easy as you think. I would still cater to the big lads by having a heavy duty area where they can train. What I have seen in the latest fitness clubs in Sydney is that they are catering to about 95% of the population and not worrying about muscleheads. One wonders, then, what happens to the members who manage to build themselves up using their premises. I guess they will have to put up with what is on offer or go elsewhere. Fitness First are committed to trying to get everyone to join them. Their dumbbells go up to about 145 pounds. That is heavy. Virginactive have db up to about 90 pounds. Therein lies a big difference. It is clear Virgin are not looking for the bodybuilders. I think many gyms believe that muscleheads deter others from joining or are intimidating. I don't agree because my big guys are nice to everyone. However, when it comes to business it is about perception and emotions and not always about facts and reality. I still can't believe they set up a gym without a biceps or triceps machine nor a standing calf machine.

One thing about Vince G CSN MFT is that everyone who sees a thread with his photos in it laugh their asses off. Not sure why this happens. I think the lad is pompous so invites ridicule.

Here is Vince at his best. Who would have thought this image would be fitting?

Goodrum is an annoying character, but his "friend" is after all his significant other and should be left out of the discussions. By the way, Goodrum has a lot of guts to take all the attacks from getbiggers as well as he does.

Melvin has a mental disorder where he craves attention , it doesnt matter if its good or bad as long as he is being talked about and is in the spot light.

Now where else could the attention be gained more than not working out and dieting but getting up on stage in a thong then posting pics claiming to look good where in reality you look like utter horse shit.Of course you will get flamed but thats what he wants , he craves attention..what normal minded person would have done the Venom Vince vs Silly Billy guns pose off looking the way he did..

The guy is a whack job.

Melvin Goodrum aka Vince G CSN MFT aka Venom Vince Versace has consistently made up stories here on Getbig to either make himself sound important or justify why he didn't show up for various tests such as contests. The guy once slipped on a soda bottle going up some stairs at a Prepaid Legal Convention and broke two bones. That was why he didn't show up at some contest he was going to enter. That was a good one. Then he was going to beat Billy Guns by being in Munzer-like condition. The truth is he showed up looking like he hadn't lifted a weight in months. WTF was going on here? The whole thing was pulling everyone's leg on Getbig. Some observers felt Goodrum was making fun of everyone by making outrageous claims and then avoiding having to prove anything at all. I recall one night he promised to post photos that revealed the ripped, new Melvin. The hour approached and then passed. People were waiting in anticipation but those promised photos never appeared. We also saw how Melvin got into feuds with some tough guys and there was supposed to be a fight to settle who was the winner. Nothing ever eventuated. He got spat on for his trouble. This Vince G is one heck of an attention seeking dude or the best gimmick ever on Getbig. Take your pick!

Melvin showed up at the Olympia to take on Billy Guns. The guy was fair dinkum. My mate Onlyme was there at the Olympia in Vegas but failed to take in that famous showdown. Had he done so and used his famous fart machine that would have been one hell of a laugh. Why someone would prefer the Olympia or the stalls to seeing Goodrum on a table is beyond me. I would have recorded that showdown plus interviewed Goodrum for Getbig. We don't find many internet heroes like Melvin any more.

Melvin has the proverbial sour grapes. He would like a great club for himself but does not have the money. So he has to come up with a basic facility that would do the job. In America and Australia basic gyms are not going to be viable. You might be able to make a small club work in a suburb or small town but cannot compete in a big city. I have no idea how the clubs in America survive because the memberships are too cheap. The personal trainer model is not a cheap one. You pay plenty for personal attention. Melvin's Gym in the Sky is exactly that. We are unlikely to see any such business.

I'm sorry but I actually like helping people, not suckering them into contracts and honestly you don't know anything about what's viable in America and what isn't.  I lot of people I've spoken to have stated that they are tired of being signed into contracts and not getting help with equipment unless they pay for personal training services.

They feel that they shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a personal trainer when they just spent hundreds of dollars getting the membership.  And I agree with them.

Gyms are going to have to change things up eventually and focus more on helping people rather than helping themselves to their wallet

Sounds to me like you're pretty lonely and obviously you're not married or in love or even dating for that matter.  All you have is Getbig.com.  One day you'll have to grow up but its not going to be for a while.

In the meantime, don't forget to put up your toys and clean your room so your mom doesn't yell at you..... ;D

There are more "regular people" than bodybuilders.  Its a matter of quantity, Vince.  Gyms are going to cater to regular people's need because that means more money for them than catering to bodybuilders which the number is much less.

And no, contracts are just plain evil.  Its a way to get people's money when they've gotten tired of not getting any help or being hit up with personal trainer fees to actually get any help.

The average "gym member" uses their membership for 2 weeks before they quit coming altogether.  But the gym can collect from them for the term of their contract.
