Why do you think lunix will help your problem when you just said its a hardware problem? Also, you can have both, actually, more than that, just get 4gb ram and vmware

You dont need to start ww3 :)

last time i had to reactivate vista by entering an authentication code - also linux is better suited for scientific computations so it is a perfect time to take the plunge.  btw, i have a dual install with ubuntu on another partition just never use it.

you can do the simulations, iterations and any shit you want under vista. and you dont really believe the hype that the world's scientific stuff relays on lunix lol

Run Ubuntu man.  I've been dual booting on my computer with xp and I dont even use windows anymore.

Go for one of the bigger distro's, Debian, Redhat, Mandrake...

I run Debian on one of my laptops, and on my other laptops I used Live Linux (boots off CD) :)

Knoppix is a really good live cd...

i have a linux based laptop

PRO's
fast as hell boots up in seconds
smooth no pop ups
no viruses
standard software that comes with o/s is very versitile and runs faster

Cons
software is a complete bitch to install and limited e.g if you buy a camera the driver for it probably wont work the same with sat navs/mp3 players ect.
