NEVER feeling rested?
« on: February 23, 2009, 05:06:27 AM »
Ok so, I never feel rested, it doesnt matter for how long or short I sleep, if I sleep 10 hours or 5 hours I feel exactly the same when I wake up = Like I haven't slept at all.

First thought is insomnia etc etc.
But my problem is , when I try to sleep I can fall asleep pretty quick, But I never get the urge to go and sleep, I feel as tired 10 in the "night" as I do 3 in the morning..
But I can fall asleep when I lay down and try to.

Anyone have the same problem and know what can cause it? :)

its super suuuuuuuuper hard to get out of bed because it feels like I havent slept at all, even after 10 + hours.

You might have sleep apnea.  I have it too.  You will wake up in the middle of the night because you can't breath and go back to sleep.  You will never get deep REM sleep.  The thing is that you will forget about waking up and so you think you've slept all the way through.   Either get some breath right strips, or go on oxygen therapy.  That is my only advise.

yeah sometimes I wake up, but I fall asleep again very fast. And its usally good because I go up and take a piss.  ;D
I though sleep apnea were that you have Problem falling asleep which I really dont.

Its really exhausting to never feel rested.

And I actually like waking up, because then it feels like I have slept longer instead of Only waking up in the morning the next day, then it feels like the night was over in one minute.

If you go to the doctor and tell him you have sleep apnea he'll do one of two things.  He won't believe you and decide he wants to do a sleep study on you where they watch you sleep all night long.  Or he'll go ahead and write a prescription for Oxygen therapy.  Weirdly enough when they watched me sleep, I woke up a total of 214 times during an 8 hour period. I didn't even remember waking up at all.  So yeah.  Some people think it's because you're fat and have a heavy chest (which I don't), or that you have a deviated nasal septum (I don;t have that either).  It's unknown why I have it being so young and all.  However, the oxygen is great and my problem was solved because of it.

Alright, I always thought it was because I was lazy or something, It fucked up my education alot, 53% abcence from school lol. Managed to pass all classes anyway though.
It feels like a drug, like you are gonna do Anything you can to possible stay in bed, did you feel any of that? Like you wanted to lie ors oemthing just to get a few hours more sleep not that it made me feel any more rested though.

Oxygen therapy is Oxygen thru out the night?

Yeah.  They either give you a mask, nasal cannula, or face tent.  If I were you, I'd get the nasal cannula and a humidifier so it doesn't dry out your nose.  Yeah, you sleep with it throughout the night.   Just for now, get some breathright strips for your nose and see if those work.  If you don't see improvement go see your doctor soon.

My whole world would change if I actually felt rested for once.

I remember in school, when he had you know the break over summer for 2-3 months or wwhatever, and everyone came back fully rested etc,
And I felt like I did before the break lol.

I thought it was normal to never feel rested though lol.

Its easy to forget about what time it is when you never get more tired then you already are.

it seems that if you go to a doctor for anything these days they send you to a sleep study (thats if you have decent insurance) they bang the company out for 4000 bucks (the sleep study place) and my guess is plenty of ti goes back to the reffering doc

SWEDE:  try some generic benedryls..  (ie--sleep aids).  Nytol etc.   I wake a lot too.. but these seem to help and they aren't addictive.  2 or 3 prior to bed.

dude me too!  I had a sleep study done, no problems there.  I need to keep searching, this could very well be chronic fatigue syndrome.  What does it take to solve?  I don't know yet, but this sucks bad.  One thing that helps, Sci-Fit caffeine pills.  In the morning on an empty stomach, then before the gym.

is this your only form of caffeine or stimulant?  Some ppl can only drink a cup of coffee in the morning and it will affect their sleep pattern.

It's most likely because you aren't sleeping deeply. It doesn't matter if you 'sleep' for 8 or even 10 hours - if you wake up in between a few times knowingly (like to go to the loo) or unknowingly (stir and then go back to sleep without remembering), then you are going to feel tired for the rest of the day when you are awake.

The reasons could vary from simple to complex - do you drink any caffeinated drinks like coffee or tea in the couple of hours before bedtime? You'd still sleep, but not as deeply as you ought to be doing. Other reasons could be

- You sleeping next to a person who tosses and turns, that would stir you every few minutes
- You could be deficient in Zinc - common among males, especially those who exercise. You need Zinc to sleep properly, so try supplementing with ZMA
- You consume too much alcohol, which again interferes with your sleeping and reduces it's quality
- You could be exercising or doing things to elevate your metabolism close to bedtime - eg, if you workout from 7 - 9 pm and hit the hay around 10 pm
- You could be stressed from some aspect of your life - mental stress reduces your quality of sleep
- You could be eating too much sugar(y stuff) and / or drink a lot of fluids before bedtime, that makes you wake up to pee in the night a few times
- You could be overtraining and under-eating - try to take a couple of weeks off from the gym to recharge.
- Your immediate sleep environment - if it's too noisy, or bright or even if your bed is not comfortable, you won't sleep as deeply like you could be doing otherwise.

Sleep apnea mostly affects those who are grossly overweight and that's not your case. So if none of the stuff I've listed applies, try and consult a sleep specialist.
