Like the embargo against Cuba. Trading with Cuba won't get USA out of any economic crisis, but it's certainly not helping to have a nation so close totally off limits.
Russia have been playing hardball with Ukraine - and to some degree with EU. But right now, they all need to be friends and avoid conflicts, focus on getting their economies back on track again.
Russia and USA - they're fast getting on speaking terms again, because neither of them wants to spend dollars or rubles on defence. In Russia, the oligarks are an engine that drives the national economy. And now they're hurting.
You got several of nations in the EU that are going to apply for the Euro in order to get a more stable currency.
USA is reaching out to China, despite critisism from Human Rights Watch.
Getting tight economic and political relations are deemed more important right now.
This was just on the top of my head.
