Hall Of Fame Bodybuilder: Ron Love

If you judged by only the handful of magazine feature articles written about him, you would tend to think that Love was not a major player in the muscle world. His prodigious contest resumé, boasting 69 IFBB pro-contests in seven years, proves otherwise. He participated in every contest held in 1987, 13 of 15 in 1989, and 12 of 14 in 1991, and overall he finished in the top five in 17 contests. It’s obvious that his heart was on the posing dais.

Love’s eight consecutive entries into the Mr. Olympia, from 1986 through 1993 (when he was 42) ended the year before the Masters Olympia began. At the time he retired from competition in 1993, he had competed in more IFBB Grand Prix events than any other pro before him.

I saw Ron train once at Gold's Venice. He's more impressive in person than in pictures. I don't know why.

Posing always looks good when you have that heroic, barbarian type music. When guys today come waddling out and start wiggling around to that rap shit, I can hardly watch it.

Ron Love is a cool dude.  He talked to me for a little while after pre-judging at the John Simmons Classic in Michigan.  He was really nice and I remember thinking that he was one huge dude with one hell of a contest record!  Powerhouse house gyms are still the best gyms around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had Ron Love in Australia 2-3 times in the early late 80s and early 90s. He was a cool dude and big hit with the ladies.
Super down to earth pro that had time for everyone. What ever he is up to I wish him well.

Ron Love trained up to the 1989 Olympia in the same gym as i.

He is by far the nicest pro i´ve ever met. Being a snotnosed 16 year old myself, i was very surprised he would sit down and talk with me when ever he was done with training.

He had a very relaxed way about him, cool guy.
