Congress luvin Obama right now
« on: February 24, 2009, 06:58:02 PM »
They can't stay seated.  Standing ovations every 5 seconds.

Certainly a *change* from when Bush would plod through a speech in front of his own party that detested him.

"luv" and fifty cents will get you a cup of coffee.

Obama's speech was indeed stirring and articulate.  If Presidents were judged solely by their speaking ability then Obama would rate highly based on his address tonight.  I will give him points for "selling" his ideas to the American public much more effectively than did his predecessor.

We'll see how his bold and ambitious plans actually play out when the rhetoric is over and the rubber hits the road.

Agree.
Great speech, from a rhetorical point of view.
But what matters is the real politics Obama brings.
FWIW, I think many of Bush's speeches were brilliantly written, eg the axis of evil speech, although he delivered them poorly.

How many did you rub out last night during the speech by Obama?

Very good speech, probably was able to boost his approval ratings even more.
But rhetorics means little in my book.
Obama has to get things done.

So the speech doesn't change anything for me. I'm more interested in details of the package going out and this energy bill et al.

Looking forward to more specifics from Geithner.

I'm also interested in seeing what will happen with the TARP.

That is why I said he is a liar and a fraud.  He had an opportunity last night to say specifics, but he did not because he knows once those details are exposed, more people will bolt and no longer support him.

The mortgage bailout is a perfect example.  He lied about it and even he knows he is a liar.

Great delivery, as usual.  Nice to have a president with excellent orator skills.

However, rhetoric does not change the fact that the congress and administration are increasing gov size, power and influence over the next several yrs.  Nor does it excuse the other spending that will come down the line.  His national healthcare, energy and education plans are going to cost additional big bucks that we absolutely do not have.  I see inflation and higher taxes coming.
$13 per week (the tax cut he talks about) won't do shit.  Waste of $.

Families making more than $250K are going to get put through the ringer.  That is a family of 2 general doctors, lawers or other professionals.  So, its not individuals making 250K, its families.

Also, does this apply to gross or net profits to small business.  If its gross (before taxes and expenses) its a complete disaster.  If its net profit, I still don't agree with raising tax but at least not as completely unreasonable.  The amount of taxes on small business right now is just amazing!

Its gross.  The liberal potheads dont even know the difference between the two.

Obama is the best liar in my lifetime.

The reason that is, is because he believes his own lies, unlike Clinton or GWB.

You have got to be f'n kidding 333386.  Private business must revolt against this president.  People, thats not $250K taken home by a business owner, thats money before taxes and expenses!

This president will do more harm to small business than anyone since Carter and in a time of recession.  How can they justify crucifying private business like this?  Its already incredibly hard to maintain a profitable business.  He's going to try to make more loans available but have higher taxes for even moderately profitable businesses.  Socialist.  I have denied it for too long.  Obama is a socialist and falls in like with other socialist leaning democrats.  I am incredibly dissapointed.  I was hoping him to be a centrist, I really was.

Because they know people will remember the speech, not the actual actions.

My advise is to try to run as much expenses as legally possible through your business.

Hire people on 1099 and let them deal with the taxes so long as they meet the qualifications of an IC.

Make your purchases online from out of state companies to avoid local sales tax.

Set up a SEP where you can reduce your taxes and contribute to a pension.

If they want to play this gamme, fine, there are legal thing we can do to minimize our tax exposure.

Is it really possible for a moderate to be elected nowdays?

Both parties are so polarized that neither is going to get a moderate thru their own primaries and into the election.

Obama was the second most socialist canidate the dems had to offer up last year.

I tried this. Doesn't work. Maybe the rules are different in 10001 though....

The gvt has time frames that someone can be on IC.

Obama's "sticking it to the man" to win points with his voter base.  They're getting set up to be economically dependent on him (at the expense of hard-working Americans of course) and if he gets his way it will be a wonderful symbiotic relationship.

Get a good accountant and set these people up with their own corporation with an EIN number.  There are plenty of ways to play these games.

If they dont like it, let them go somewhere else.

Good thoughts.  I have done a couple of those things.  I may also have to get different accountants that aren't so straight forward by the book.
Its outrageous that companies grossing more than 250K will be taxed more.  Taxation is insane right now.  More is a huge blow to business in this country.
He can speak all he wants but if they do this, actions speak much louder than words and I want him out in 2012.
