Exactly, it would seem to me anything that shoots a bullet could be considered and assault weapon. I have a AR-15 that shoots .556 or .223 ammo or hand guns that shoot .45 or 9mm but the AR-15 is an assault weapon, why? Because it looks scary like a military weapon

There's no reason for any manufacturer to produce a weapon specifically designed for military and/or combat applications to be sold to civilians who are not in the military.  Being formally in the military, I've used these weapons and I know that they should not be available to everyone due to the amount of damage they can inflict.

The 2nd Amendment was written in 1791 however at the time, there wasn't any automatic weapons or even semiautomatics.  There were nothing but flintlock pistols, muskets, blunderbus and rifles.  The law is antiquated and needs to be overhauled for the present times to deal with weapons that can wipe out a large number of people in mere seconds.

Wow, hate to tell you this but I can't go down to the local gun shop and pick up an M60, a Ma Deuce, or a A2 grenade launcher. Yeah there are a lot of weapons that can do a great amount of damage in short time, so what? To even touch and fully automatic weapon you have to have an FFL that allows for NFA weapons.

Being in the military or law enforcement has no bearing on anyone "understanding" where you are coming from. A gun or any weapon for that matter is an inadament object, it can't go out and shoot someone on its own. Maybe you should be little more concerned with the human element.

I served in the Army and worked for Greenville Country and SLED.  But my opinion is based on seeing people killed by assault weapons.  When I was working in corrections, inmates would tell (brag) about how easy it was to convert a weapon into a fully automatic. 

America's love of guns are killing us and we have the highest murder rates by guns in the world.  I'm not against owning guns but the guns owned should be of practical use and application.
