Or the Pats get the number 34 pick and ........................ .............well lets hope there is more to this. Its not a bad deal but only one pick? They do create a ton more cap space.
They are not done yet. Also, Matt might not have wanted to go to some of the other teams interested. This is icing on the cake. If the pats got greedy, they could have been stuck with the guy and his 14 million dollar cap hit. That 34th pick could turn out to be a pro-bowler.
As it stands now the pats have picks:
23
34
46
38 (San D)
68
70 (comp pick for Asante)
Plus all their day two picks.
Thats six picks in the top 100 players of the draft. Keep in mind, Cassel was a UFA that was drafted in the 6th round with a 14 million dollar cap hit. They helped Pioli out and they did what they had to do. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also, we don't know what was had for Vrabel and there was a third team involved in this. This deal might get a whole lot more interesting. Cassel could have walked and refused to sign the tender. Maybe this will bring peppers here.
Everyone called Bill crazy for giving up a 2nd rounder for Welker......2 1000 yard season in the slot and a pro bowl later it does not look like such a bad move, eh?
