Obama Budget Dir Admits Carbon Policy Will Cause Energy Prices to Rise on All Americans - Video

Here is video of White House Budget Director Peter Orszag appearing on This Week with George Stephanopoulos yesterday, where he admitted - grudgingly - that President Obama's plans for a "Cap and Trade" Policy on carbon emissions will increase energy costs for all Americans! They will probably have the votes to do this, and this just may be the point at which Americans begin to turn on Obama. That clip shows the outright stupidity of everything Obama is about. How does access to a "pell grant" equate to the hike in energy taxes that increases everythnig?

I have yet to hear one reasonable, rational, coherent, justification for raining energy taxes under one of these cap and trade schemes, not only now, but ever.

It seems to me that the only thing this does is rob businesses and taxpayers of more money with no effect on the environment or anything. Additionally, if China, India, and Russia dont sign on to this, WTF would we handicap ourselves under this chaos?

Maybe he's thinking that a cancer needs to be excised while the tumour is still only 5 millimetres, rather than waiting till it becomes 5 " when the operation becomes more dangerous, and the prognosis of survival goes down.

Bush neglected making necessary changes while they were still bearable. Perhaps it has reached the point where hard changes need to be made before a tipping point has been reached? the status quo hasn't helped and will only make things worse, making it even more difficult to turn around in the long run. We'll see what happens.

Many of us are all for reducing dependence on oil but now is not the time. We don't have the technology immediately available to make a widespread changeover. Obama's new cap and trade policy will certainly raise energy costs for us all. The timing couldn't be worse. I do not understand why Obama is persuing all these costly ideals when our economy is hurting and the debt is mounting weekly. People were all over the news today starting to question the policies of this administration.
AIG just approved for another bailout today.
Stock market plunges 300 points.
Socialism is not good for this economy and wall street is letting us know.

Well, I don't think he wants chaos. I think he wants to change America in the way some of us were concerned about prior to the election. Obama spent a lot of time (as you well know 333386) with some far left liberal mentors and socialist teachers. I think he is using the economic crisis to pass all these proposals now, while he can. He is probably doing what he feels is best but it is obviously not from a centrist perspective.

It would seem better to give tax breaks, grants and other incentives to persue alternative energy and save cap and trade (and any other policy which raises the cost of energy) until the alternative technology is ready. Then use these programs as an incentive to make the nationwide changeover.
Additionally, he completely ignored nuclear. I spoke to a supervisor at a nuclear power plant the other day and the scientists feel very comfortable about the saftey of nuclear power and disposing nuclear waste. He couldn't understand the opposition from this administration.

We've had the technology for the past 40 years. What we lack is the will, due to competing interests.

There are those who are not interested in a solution, ...they are interested in government grants.
They are interested in selling their products, regardless of how much it increases compliance costs for an industry that cannot afford it.
