Because for the most part...it's like watching paint dry.

Same reason they talk during Ice skating routines, gymnastics routines, etc....providing color commentary gives the viewer information, insight, and perspective. There are some routines we talk through more than others, especially if it's slow and monotonous, as opposed to one of the more entertaining one's where we barely say anything...

There has been a recent craze in some UK sports (snooker, cricket) to sell or give out small personal radios to spectators so they can listen to the actual television commentary. Bodybuilding.com should look into it. I'm sure it would enhance some of the audiences enjoyment of the show.
