Barney Frank Seeking Prosecutions for Financial Wrongdoing
« on: March 05, 2009, 06:23:57 PM »
How can this guy even look at himself in the mirror?

March 5 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank said he wants to see people prosecuted for wrongdoing related to the financial crisis as lawmakers overhaul regulation of Wall Street.

Frank will call on attorneys general, bank regulators and officials from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to outline plans for prosecuting and recovering funds from those responsible for the crisis, he said today at a news conference in Washington.

“What are your plans to prosecute those people whose irresponsible and, in some cases, criminal actions helped bring about this crisis?” said Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat.

Congress is planning the biggest overhaul of U.S. financial- industry regulation since the 1930s after companies reported almost $1.2 trillion in writedowns and credit losses since the subprime mortgage market collapsed in 2007. Frank said his committee will examine whether law enforcement agencies have sufficient tools to fight fraud, and will advance legislation aimed at curbing abuses in credit-card and mortgage lending.

“I do want all these people with enforcement powers, state and federal, in that room outlining what their plans are to do these recoveries,” Frank said about the March 20 hearing.

“We want to know what proposals there are to recover funds from people who caused this loss of taxpayer dollars and investor dollars,” Frank said.

Great idea.We should start with him and Chris Dodd.

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are great men. How dare you disparage them. Both were spot on when they repeatedly refused to enact greater oversight measures on Fannie Mae and Freddie mac. Obviously the solution is more taxes and getting rid of bonuses for corporate officers. That way nobody will work hard so less people will borrow money. Everything will even out! Makes perfect sense.

Sure, it makes perfect sense to basically dumb America down to the level of the lowest common denominator.  Yay for the United States of the Lowest Common Denominator!!!

DUH, no...  as prosecutor he has special powers and is above the law.  That's the cool thing about being the prosecutor.  You get to make the rules as you go.

Barney never had anything in his basement.  Hell Barney never even HAD a basement to start with.  What kind of apartment comes with a basement.

One should get facts straight before indulging in story telling.  Least it come back to bite you in the ass.

As it stands, when Barney found out what the dude was doing, he brought it before his peers in Congress himself.  Unlike Repubs, he didn't wait to get caught red handed and deny deny deny, he broke the news himself.  He was investigated by the Ethics Committee and cleared of any wrong doing.

So if Franks is a total idiot, then perhaps Repubs can learn something from him.  Say ones like Delay, Allen, Craigs, Stevens,etc...  after all the "idiot" showed more integrity and personal accountability than any of the Repubs have ever done.

LOL @ a useless issue coming back to bite you in the ass with facts contained within.

A soft spot for two things called "facts" and "logic".

Undisputeable as they are.

Your idea of "facts" is as laughable as Barneys excuses.

Barnett "Barney" Frank was first elected to Congress in 1981 at the age of forty-one from Massachusetts' 4th district. Six years later he made national news when he publicly declared his homosexuality. By that admission he became the first openly gay member of the House of Representatives.

In 1991, Barney Frank received an official reprimand for reflecting "discredit upon the House." The reprimand came as a result of his relationship with a man named Steve Gobi, a male prostitute whom Frank initially paid $80 for sex. Frank later took Gobi to live with him in his home, making him a personal aide. He paid him $20,000 in compensation (unreported to the IRS) and let him use his car. Subsequent investigation revealed that in the course of their relationship, Frank used his congressional office and stationary to fix Gobi's 33 parking fines. Frank also used his congressional letterhead to write a reference letter to Gobi's probation officer -- Gobi was under court supervision as a convicted felon with a prison record -- in which he gave false information. Most damningly, the investigation found that Gobi ran a prostitution ring from Frank's home. In his defense, Frank asserted he knew nothing of Gobi's illicit enterprise.

The Democrat -controlled House voted 408-18 to reprimand Frank after a heated debate during which some Republicans demanded expulsion. They pointed out that the claim that Frank did not know of Gobi's criminal activities was incredible to say the least.

Jeff Jacoby of The Boston Globe summed up their sentiments when he wrote: "Most pathetic of all was Frank's claim that he'd been 'victimized' -- that he was a just a 'good liberal' who was 'trying to help' Gobie, but got 'suckered.'"

Frank's Democrat colleagues, however, insisted that this was precisely what happened. During the debate, his friend Thomas Foglietta (D-PA) said, "Barney Frank is accused of being stupid and, my friend, if being stupid were grounds for expulsion, there'd be very few of us left here."

Although the latter part of Foglietta's statement may well be true, the first part is decidedly not. Whatever else he may be, Barney Frank is certainly not stupid. A former Harvard instructor, Barney Frank twice won the title "brainiest", "funniest," and "most eloquent" member of the House in a survey of Capitol Hill staffers. It truly strains the bounds of credulity that Frank, an accomplished congressman and a former Ivy League lecturer, could be deceived under his own roof by a street hustler.

Can you say "OWNED"?

I sure can.

You just "OWNED" yourself.

Not a single thing in that epic wall of cut and paste  you did mentioned a BASEMENT, nor is there any CONVICTION of Frank in there.  He was acquitted of the charges.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Frank

..After an investigation, the Ethics Committee found no evidence that Frank had known of or been involved in the alleged illegal activity ...

And those are the FACTS.   Not sure exactly what you were trying to prove by only enforcing exactly what I said prior.  But nevertheless, you = fail.

LoL how about you rely on something besides Wikipedia for your information. He admitted that he knew there was gay brothel being run out of his home. The only thing you demonstrated accurately in this thread is that his apartment didn't have a basement. Bravo!

Gee, seems like disputing YOUR statements and claims suddenly bring out the old Republican tactic.  When proven wrong, attempt to change direction.   Typical.

FYI in addition to proving you wrong about the basement... and you really should perhaps use wikipedia for info other than the typical neocon whinesites as the info is more accurate.... but you were also proven wrong about the claim he was convicted.

Proving a Republican wrong by using facts is like shooting fish in a barrel.  Too easy.  Nice try.  Come back and play again sometime.
