Sure, Europe could be better off.
But the EU at least is partially saved by the strict fiscal rules, which bans member countries from running big deficits and forces the members to balance their budgets over time.
So the national debts are nowhere near the size of USA's.

Matt, don't let certain individuals get under your skin. I think its great that you have an interest in American politics and your right, the America's economy certainly affects Canada. However, be open minded in evaluating the president. We have too much us vs them thinking. We should applaud him when he does well and criticize when he doesn't. We must be more objective.

Foreclosures are at an all time high, this is even AFTER banks have put a temporary stay on forced foreclosures. Unemployment is at all time high. Retail sales are down. House prices still dropping. The market is so desperate that it took Citi's news on turning a "profit" and ran with it even though it was a projected number before taxes and one time charges. What will it's "profit" be after those are included? How much money did these banks take from TARP and god knows what else to turn a "profit"?

Remember when Citi said it wouldn't need bailout money? Remember when they said they wouldn't have to cut divideneds? The fundmentals havent changed. The economy is still in free fall, give it another 4-5 months and we'll see.
