Vascular achievements
« on: March 12, 2009, 12:49:45 PM »
I blame my genetics because no matter how hard I work it takes forever for me to get a vein to come to the surface. I'm kind of curious where everyone else stands on this topic. I could be missing something but it seems like I show fewer compared to someone else of equal size/BF%.

Comments/tips.....

Could be just genetic - some people are more vascular than others - look at Jay Cutler - he's huge and hardly has a visible vein - Flex Wheeler was the same. I wouldn't worry about the lack of veins - they'll come out to an extent with low bodyfat but you might just have thicker skin than most. Musle definition is what matters - not how much veins you have.

What are you trying to get vascular for; competition or vanity in the gym?

More of an observation at this point, I have what i refer to as "the minimum" necessary to justify myself. However they never hurt when its mirror time!

Veins are not all they are cracked up to be.
I'm extremely vascular, much to my own dismay. :-\
I can be at 12-15% body fat, and have spider webs in my shoulders. My hands, I think more due in part to playing guitar than any other factor, are display veins no matter what. I can be 35% (don't think I've ever been above 15-18%) and still have veins on top of my hands.
When I lean out, as I'm currently just about finished doing, people consistently and constantly make comments about them. They are disgusted by them. I can't help it, unless I want to be a lard ass like Goodrum, but I like being lean so I live with the veins.
Like the others have said, it's genetics. Having thin (or thinner than other people) skin, low body fat, and also how you train (to some extent) that all plays part in what your vascular system looks like from the outside.

I'm the same - I'm hardly ripped but it doesn't take many low-carb days to bring out the ol' shoulder veins - it doesn't look pretty when they're the only veins showing and I can still barely see my abs - I can't get a bicep vein at all.

Doesn't even take a low/high carb day for me. They are there, no matter what. I usually have biceps veins year round, but those will cover up more than the shoulders/hands.

higher reps, creating the best pump possible. and i really believe that i created my vascularity by posing extremely hard when the muscles were pumped. i could feel so much blood in the veins that they would actually hurt from the expansion.

and my blood pressure has never been out of normal range. resting pulse 47-53.

That's the first time I've seen forearms that blow away Mike Mentzer's and Casey Viator's.

Mike, Casey and Arnold were three that i admired the most in the seventies.

Hazbin, do you have giant hands or something? Your forearm is massive, yet your hand looks even bigger..... :D
