eating fats and increasing testosterone question!!!!!!!!!!
« on: March 17, 2009, 03:34:10 PM »
So, I know there have been studies that prove eating fats will increase your testosterone...
I hear as a natural bodybuilder you are better off eating more fats than carbs.
what kind of fats is best for doing this?
monosaturated fats?
saturated fats?
cholesterol?

is the change even that significant for you to change your entire diet for it?
how much more testosterone can be made from a diet high in fats?
is this to a point, where any more fat will be useless? for example more than 20% of the diet?

Right now I have natural peanut butter, and olive oil
should i get some butter for added cholesterol?

whole eggs would be number one. red meat good two.

best fats for gaining muscle = pro inflammatory, high in cholestrol

best fats for losign fat = omega 3, omega 6 with high gla, monounsaturated

Interesting. At another thread where I mentioned that saturated fats were superior to unsaturated ones when it comes to boosting testosterone, you replied by saying that unsaturated fats were superior at this. Now you are agreeing with me that saturated fats are better. This clearly shows you were arguing with me just to be contrary.

do saturated fats promote testosterone better than unsaturated fats? no, IIRC, they dont.

there are many unsaturated fats that are pro inflammatory.  for example = safflower oil. (most all omega 6 and 9 are pro inflammatory, with some exeptions like evening primrose oil, olive oil, etc. )

Yes, they do. Jim Stoppani, PhD in nutrition at FLEX regarding this issue:

"It is not recommended that bodybuilders completely eliminate red meat, whole eggs and other sources of saturated fats during bulking phases. Fats as a rule, and saturated fats especially, are important for keeping testosterone levels high.

And I fail to see the relevance of whether a fat is proinflammatory or not. The Okinawans eat lots of fatty fish and they don't particularly have higher levels of inflammation than Westerners who eats lots of saturated fats. And Okinawas have much higher overral health than Westerners.

well after reading back through some of my saved files on nutrition, neither of us were really accurate.

monounsaturated fats and saturated fats boost testosterone about equally, while polyunsaturated fats do not increase testosterone.

however! since most sources of saturated fat are also sources of cholestrol, and since cholestrol is the precursor to testosterone and increased cholestrol consumption increases testosterone levels, that would mean on average most saturated fat sources would yeild better increases in testosterone than most monounsaturated fats.

as far as the pro inflammatory effect of fats. well, for one, the fact that okinawans have much better overall health than us, would probably be directly causedby the fact that their diet is very anti inflammatory, as a huge number of diseases and health conditions are from inflammatory diet. hence why experts preach that the overuse of corn oil (highly inflammatory fat) in the foods people are eating today is a major contributor to disease and illness.

as far as bodybuilding is concerned, the consumption of inflammatory fats is beneficial to increase and optimize inflamatory response to training, leading to increased production of prostaglandin pgf2a, which means more growth (and more fat loss/inhibition of fat gain).

Increasing cholesterol in one who doesn't consume enough MAY raise testosterone levels.  Your statement Candi is a little black/white.

Good work with the info though.   :)

I suggest you try eating whole eggs every day for a few weeks. You can keep total calories the same. Keep protein the same. and report back on what the results are. Im sure youll find that you felt stronger, happyer, more energetic, got a bit better gains, stayed a bit leaner.

While I appreciate scientific info, I also believe that results come before science.

Tbombz i would agree with your first post.  Cholesterol is a pre-cursor for test, therefore whole eggs, cream and red meat are good choices.
