My issue with Bono is that he seeks to "raise awareness" for some outrage about 4-6 weeks before a new album is released or a new tour starts. I guess that the problem is then magically solved, because he doesn't mention it again.

umm, not really. last album came out in 04, RED campaign was in 07, Live 8 was in 05. He was nominated for the nobel peace prize in 05 and 06. He campaigned for money from bush every year he was in office. now his band has an album out again and people talk about him. He never stops working.

No, people think he's an ass because they can't keep up with he work ethic and passionate energy. they resent it. also, to get in front of 100,000 people and sing, you gotta have an ego. But if you look at his lyrics and interviews, the guy is pretty self depricating, and never talks himself up. he talks up his music and his causes, but never himself.
