Of course this could happen here.  All that TSA bullshit at our airports is just a dog-n-pony show intended to make people feel good, as if 'good feelings' protect us from harm.  ::)

........................ .............

A HELLS ANGELS associate was killed in a brawl at Sydney Airport with a rival club, the Comanchero, in a brazen attack witnessed by dozens of travellers yesterday afternoon.

The Lakemba man, 29, was knocked to the ground during the fight - involving at least 10 men - and bashed repeatedly in the head with a metal bollard.

The attack took place in terminal three, one of the most secure and monitored public spaces in Australia.

The Premier, Nathan Rees, immediately announced he would meet the Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, this morning to discuss tough new anti-bikie legislation.

"I was sickened by this brazen attack. Violence of this nature particularly in front of families and children is nothing short of disgusting," Mr Rees said.

The attack came hours after the Sydney-based Bandidos had been involved in a series of drive-by shootings at six homes in Auburn. They are believed to be linked to a feud with another club, Notorious.

The dead man became embroiled in the brawl as interstate bikies arrived from Adelaide via Melbourne. Reinforcements had been expected in Sydney at the weekend to help the Bandidos' Blacktown chapter in its war with Notorious, sources said.

Onlookers were stunned by the intensity of the fight.

"Even if there was airport security there was no way they could have intervened," said a witness, who did not want to be named. "They came across the turnstiles like a tangled mob.

"[There was] a man on the ground and a man smashing his head with this silver bollard - there was nothing [security and police] could have done."

The brawl is believed to be linked to a feud between the Hells Angels and the Comanchero gang that erupted after the Angels' clubhouse in Petersham was bombed last month.

The fight was believed to have been planned, and it ranged across the terminal, said Detective Inspector Peter Williams, of Botany Bay police.

"We have got a lot of cameras and a lot of witnesses."

Four Comanchero members were arrested after leaving the airport in a taxi. Police expected to charge the four men - a 25-year-old from Auburn, a 22-year-old from Casula, a 21-year-old from Pemulwuy, and a 22-year-old from Ingleburn - with affray early today.

The Minister for Police, Tony Kelly, promised to "throw every resource" into the investigation and foreshadowed laws to try to stifle the operations of the clubs. "I will be meeting [today] with the police commissioner and the Attorney-General, looking at additional laws that we can bring into place to round these people up," Mr Kelly said.

Last month Mr Scipione requested extra power to combat the upsurge in violence. Details of the laws are not known, but it is understood they will include provisions on non-association - making it illegal for members of bikie gangs to congregate.

Last night senior commanders were meeting with federal police about airport security. The Australian Crime Commission is likely to become involved in talks on the interstate movement of motorcycle gang members.

The Opposition Leader, Barry O'Farrell, added his voice to calls for an end to bikie violence. "We need resolve, not simply to lock up these bikie gang criminals, but to break them up completely," he said.

Considering that the U.S. has 320 million people, would you think it possible that at least somewhere a person would be beaten to death every day? Sad part is, some are children and old people.

What's a Bollard?

I believe they're the little metal posts with the retractable straps used to keep people in the correct line.

The term 'bikie' doesn't exactly elicit fear, but seeing one of those fuckers wielding a bollard sure as hell would!

I'm with you.

Why give this asshole the permission to continue breathing the same air we do?

I'm not a huge proponent of the death penalty, but I'm VERY much a supporter in cases like these when guilt is not in question.

Where was armed security? This thing started developing on the flight, police could've been ready when the plane debarked. Apparently a member of the public had to call the police after it started in the terminal and then wait for the police, there were no armed people in the busiest terminal in Australia. I don't think this happens in the airports i've been to in the US.

PASSENGERS and crew on a lunchtime Qantas flight from Melbourne to Sydney knew trouble was brewing when six heavily tattooed and muscular men became agitated and started using their mobile phones mid-flight.

After landing, they bolted from their seats on flight QF430 before they were told to leave, with one shouting, "C'mon boys, let's go".

Qantas staff watched as they shouted and shoved each other as they left via Gate 5 of the domestic terminal - with one staff member calling for security to direct other passengers away from the men.

Court documents say senior members of the Hells Angels and the Comancheros were on the flight. Police suspect they had called reinforcements to the airport. During the ensuing fight which continued through the terminal, spilling out between the check-in counters and into the public waiting area, the brawling men were allegedly heard yelling "I am going to kill you, c..t. I am going to kill you."

But the message about the potentially dangerous passengers never made it from the plane and the security at the gate to the airport police.

When the violence exploded in terminal three, and about a dozen gang members began laying into one another with knives, knuckle dusters and bollards, police and security were nowhere to be seen.

Despite the banks of CCTV cameras, which are supposedly monitored, it took a member of the public to dial 000 and alert police to the brawl that raged for about 10 minutes and left 29-year-old bikie associate Anthony Zervas dying from serious head injuries on the concourse floor.

The airport police team run by the Australian Federal Police did not arrive until after the fight was over and some of the alleged offenders had made their getaway in a taxi.

Absolutely unbelievable.  Passengers were able to contact reinforcements on the ground, but the crew couldn't get a message to ground security?

And then the fight happened in the terminal with no intervention from law enforcement?  And the perpetrators had time to catch taxis??

I guess we should just be thankful that this fight didn't take place on the flight and that no non-gang members were badly hurt.

A surprise attack could easily happen in any American airport, and I suppose a big brawl could get started as well, but I would expect our officers to respond with more force before letting this escalate to the level this one apparently did.

Plane: "Yeah, look we've got a plane load of bikie thugs coming your way Sydney."

Sydney: "Yeah, roger that, we'll break out the tea and scones upon their arrival".

Plane: "Yeah, roger that, no need for any police or security personnel, these girls mean business"

Sydney: "Yeah, roger one-two, our mooma boys police and security personnel don't want to get knocked today, besides Sunday is double demerit points for those caught speeding"

Plane: "Oh yeah, shXt thanks for reminding me"

Sydney: "Yeah, well the action is gonna be on with plenty of tourist folks to weigh into the biffo I reckon".

Plane: "Well roger that, I won't divert the plane, coming down".

Sydney: "Yeah, bring 'em on, we aint prepared for anything down here!".

Nothing that could be done?
how about shooting some people? that seems to get the attention of a mob during a brawl...

WTF?

I saw something like this happen once. I was getting into a taxi outside Star City Casino when all these guys fighting spilled out of the nightclub.

One Leb guy picked up a 'Bollard' and starting hitting this Islander guy in the head with it.

Anyway he ended up dropping it and a crowd came around them. The Islander took off his shirt (was ripped to pieces then) and was ready to keep going. The Leb guy was shitting himself then without his weapon, but the Islander's friends pulled him away at the last minute. Kind of a shame ;).
