Need car audio help ASAP!
« on: March 27, 2009, 06:53:29 PM »
I have an 07 Tiburon SE that comes with a Kenwood faceplate stereo standard.  Problem is some fucktard needed just the faceplate, the car's cigarette lighter, and a pool cue >:(......sorry to the hardcore here, but the lifting gear was in the house. :P Here is the link to the the stereo http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OrFgdS0aXQb/p_113EZ500/Kenwood-EZ-500.html

Anyway, the company that my insurance company uses couldn't get the faceplate, so they offered me something comparable.  Somehow that turned out be a new Pioneer cd/dvd player  8)  http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130AVHP510/Pioneer-AVH-P5100DVD.html?search=pioneer+avhp+5100

The problem is that as soon as the new stereo flips to dvd as the source, the spedometer no longer works.  (Video screen + no spedometer = really bad driving and/or death.)

The shop is at a loss as to what to the fuck is going on, and this place is regarded as one of, if not, the best in town.  Their solution is to do some sort of T set up using the old stereo. (I don't know shit about this stuff, so sorry for being vague)  Apparently, there is something in the old stereo that is responsible for the spedometer working.....all other gauges DO work btw.   I really don't want this as the solution, so has anyone here ever encountered something like this???  I have to bring it in early tomorrow, so I probably won't be on here much longer, but if you know how to fix this........please post how.

In return, I will provide either hot straight porn links or ask one of the gay guys here to provide you endless pics of oiled up muscular men :-*

Buy a new car. Most repairs are more effort and money than replacing the car itself

Really?!?!  I know the economy is bad, but do you think I could convince the insurance company that since they can't seem to replace the faceplate in a timely manner they should just give me a new car?

I'm pretty successful in my sales career, but I'm not too sure I can pull this one off  :P

Take into consideration I have a shit car! This would just be my experience in the UK. Believe it or not the UK economy is in a much poorer state than the US. Companies over here have dropped new car prices ridiculous amounts.

No harm chancing your arm though!

Hard to argue that you don't have a point.  Also, hard to believe the insurance company enabled the upgrade.....but they did! 8)

When your system goes to dvd function a buss (a wire that goes throughout the dashboard, connecting to several subsystems) changes state, probably it is meant to turn on the video screen.  Unfortunately in your case, this buss is accidentally cross connected to another buss that turns your speedometer display on and off.  The shop needs to trace through the schematics to find this cross connection.
