Mr. O 1972 Videos- Arnold v. Sergio
« on: April 03, 2009, 01:25:27 PM »
Here are two vids of the 1972 Mr. O Arnold V. Sergio

In the second vid, what is up with Sergio's wiggle? ??? But his taper is still unreal, no matter how many times I see the pics.

Sergio's posing sucked

Weak analysis-if that had been true, he'd not have been known for the most unique and arguably most compelling pose ever, the victory pose. In truth his posing could have been better but was solid not poor.

'72 was close; neither was at peak condition.

There's a difference between hitting a static pose, and performing a dynamic posing routine, moron. Sergio looked like a retard posing....ala Dillet. He clearly had more size and density than Arnold, but was not as conditioned or polished. Arnold wins.

No I beg to differ one pose doesn't compensate for his lack of abilities in most of the other mandatory poses , for a professional bodybuilder his posing left a lot to be desired just because he got it right on one pose doesn't mean anything in all the others , his routines sucked , he didn't hold his poses long enough , his transitions were awkward , he absolutely put no effort into physique control he didn't show off his physique to it's best and he posed way to quickly overall my assessment stands true his posing sucked

You've got to hand it to Sergio when even Arnold himself said that he thought Sergio had him at the '72 Olympia.

I'm the BIGGEST Arnold guy here on Getbig, and even I can admit Sergio looked really good. Definitely gave Arnold a run for his money that year. I wouldn't say Arnold 'destroyed' him.  ::)

I'm trying to rattle my brain here. I have such a HUGE collection of Arnold magazines/books/etc. that I wanna say it was in one of those. I'd have to search high and low to find the quote, but it's one that stood out and I remember.

Sergio was way ahead of his time and when Arnold feared him that speaks volumes , I'm torn about 72 in some pics Arnold looks like the winner in others I say Sergio , but there is relatively little great footage to gauge from , Weider has to have some high quality shots of this contest maybe he's withholding them for a reason lol

I remember in an interview Sergio did [MuscleMag, I think] he said that when they were backstage before the awards, he was in front of the line and Arnold was behind him. Joe Weider came along and switched Sergio's and Arnold's position where now The Oak was in front.

It was then that Sergio knew something was not right.

When did he say this?

I found it...

"Certainly Sergio was great enough in Germany to take the Mr. Olympia title," Arnold reflected afterward. "And let me tell you that had he been awarded the number one spot, I would have been the very first to congratulate him. I will go further and admit that had I been a judge in Germany, I would have voted in favor of Oliva over me."

It's from the book, Fantastic: The Life and Times of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I remember Arnold being quoted somewhere else saying the same thing along those lines.

the backround curtain or wall favors arnolds coloring over serges also, the wall is almost the same color as serges skin tone where arnold skin tone stands out alot better with the backround coloring, and when you have a competition thats that close something like the backround can mean the difference between 1st and 2nd place imo.it makes serge appear smoother then he really was imo and made arnold stand out better and look harder, overall i think arnold edged him out barely though.im wondering if anyone on getbig(oldtimers) was at that show in germany to give thier honest opinion of who should have won that show between the myth and the oak

Sergio made Arnold look skinny in some poses, but it was really close like others have said.
