south Florida's economy is SUNK at the moment.  Tourism is terrible for the 2nd year in a row, and construction died 18 months ago.  We have 12% unemployment in Lee county, not even counting the 5% of part-timers or ppl who have just plain given up.

So with a real unemployment rate of 17%... any commerce we can get with Cuba is good.  Plus it'll let us get some eyes in there.  If Russia and Venezuela are putting ships and eventually troops in Cuba, we certainly need eyes and men in the area, right?

Trade will normalize relationships and prevent a crisis in our backyward.  And it'll put some $ into our economy.  Lots of cuban cigars are good $$$.  Vice goes up in tough times, and cigars will sell.  This will cause a wage of vice - health care - to increase as well.

or, we could just bitch about what Castro did 50 years ago to piss us off.  Sure, that makes sense.

Obama seems like a damn retard.
He was having a debate in front of an audience and he got the question about legalizing and Taxing marijuana and if that would help the economy... (the question was the most popular one from voting online)

He LAUGHED it off and made a stupid joke about people who are on the internet, and said No that wouldn't help.

EVEN THOUGH its proven that taxing marijuana would bring in about 4 billion dollars each year, and at lest 3 billion dollar More would be saved from stopping the hunt on the drug.. (thats what the goverment spend each year on trying to tack down growers etc etc)

so at least 7 billions dollar would be earned. And he laughed it off?  ??? ???

swede come on the guy is not a retard

Has anyone here been to Cuba?

I'm thinking of going early next year and was wondering what it was like.

Hey 240, I never said it wouldn't work, I said it was a temporary fix that we will ALL have to pay for for the rest of our lives our childrens lives and grandchildrens lives. It was a bad move, $10 trillion is a bad move. Ask him if he runs his own finances like that. Do you run your business like that? I sure as hell don't, I hate debt especially ones that will never be paid back.

hes not doing it 'just because', hes doing it because his position is dictated by the gargantuan hole your buddy left the nation in.

Joe,

How do you propose Obama could have done things differently?

He inherited 7% unemployment (meaning 12% real unemployment) with such a staggering trend that it was up to 8% in a single month.  Another 12 months of this policy and yes, we could have been over 15% nationwide (20% real) unemployment rate.

Obama's stimulus plan created 4 million new jobs.  Some are active now, others will be created in the next 18 months.

If you have a better plan, the nation would like to hear it.  If your plan is "tax breaks for the wealthy", well, Bush tried that.  The result was the hugely trending unemployment that Obama inherited.

And Castro did that because Cuba was America's lil Playground. And I'm kinda glad he did that, in the beginning, he basically thumb his nose at the US, surviving Assignation attempts, and Using Cuba position in the Cold War. His actions although rendered Cuba to be still stuck in the 1950's.

Actually, Castro was very much capitalism friendly when he first took over. He went quickly through about six political stances before he 'settled' on Communism, mostly in opposition to the US' antagonistic position. Second stupidest grudge match in the 20th century.
