Fux's back was good but no way you can put him above Bannout. Robinson is also incredibly low on that list. Shit! There wasn't that much of a difference between him and Columbu. Actually, Robinson's back was more complete, only his lat spread was weaker. Samething for Ronnie vs Dorian. Dorian has a more complete back whereas Ronnie was wider but that's it.

that back in on par with anyone development wise. could have had a few more striations compared to someone like yates... but mass wise he can hang with anyone.

Benazziza was a monster, no doubt. Wheeler had an amazing back in '93 specially. he never showed up as detailed later on.

yes i remember flex once said in an interview with shawn ray (actually flex was interviewing shawn) that he had a kidney problem after 1993 but he didnt know about it.. according to him this was not helping him to lean so he couldn't repeat the shape of 93 although he was doing his best.. i dont know if this can be right..

I tend to think that anything Flew says is BS right now. Too many ninjas' story coupled with myostatin defetc and 0% BF has brought down my fait in Flex's words.

yes fux was a monester but in my list his shape was not good.. like markus you can't call him "mass with class" like you can call nasser or dorian..

this pic. shows you the difference between "mass with class" nasser and "just mass" fux..

If this is from FLEX, they need to get their act together. That's not solely Franco Columbu as number 5. It's Arnold Schwarzenegger too doing the back-double bicep.

Columbu is overrated. Sure, he had a gigantic rear lat spread. But that's about it. i don't think the picture on the left is him. It would be the first time I would see that much detail in his back. And his back was thicker than that I believe. Maybe it was a good night for him though.

i am not sure if columbo was overrated in general or not because i dont know a lot about his era (before lee haney's era) but i am sure he didnt deserve to win in 1981.. dany padila who placed 5th was the best guy on stage in my opinion!!..

I'mfar from being an Arnold guy but I think his back was actually better overall than Columbu's. I would have placed neither of them in the top 20 list though. Robby Robinson is the guy who changed the standards for back development. Then came Bannout and Haney immediately after. I don't see anyone from the Golden Era who can compete in that departement with modern Bbers.

Same in '76. he didn't really deserve to win either. But the '81 O was a joke. Bad gyno, poor symmetry (specially legs) and you had three guys in great shape up there: Padilla, Platz and Callendar. But it's the 'O, remember.

20 Albert Beckles
19 Melvin Anthony
18 Thierry Pastel
17 Tony Pearson
16 Sergio Oliva
15 Orville Burke
14 Art Atwood
13 Flex Wheeler
12 Robby Robinson
11 Mohamed Benaziza
10 Victor Martinez
9 Michael Francois
8 Samir Bannout
7 Jean-Pierre Fux
6 Jay Cutler
5 Franco Columbu
4 Lee Haney
3 Joel Stubbs
2 Dorian Yates
1 Ronnie Coleman

dorian should have been no. 1,.. his back was the best ever and because of this the rest of him (if we exclude his great calves)always looked weaker than its reality..

ronnie's back can't be the best ever because it was never as hard as rock.. it should have been 2nd..

joel's back is great but not better than haney's or bannout's!!.. of course he didn't deserve to come in 3rd..

jay cutler should not have been in this list!!.. very soft in the rear lat spread pose and not greatly detailed in the rear db..

also why are guys like thierry pastel, oliva, &, martinezin this list!!.. they had good backs but there were a lot of guys with much better backs who were not mentioned.. aron baker for example had a better back than these guys..

fux too should not have been here.. his back was great only in the rear lat spread..

benazia and bannout should have come after dorian, ronnie, &, haney.. anyway they are arabs so no wonder ;)

flex wheeler too should have come in the top 10..

I pretty much entirely agree, apart from the Fux comment in the rear double bi, because Dorian didn't look so great in the rear double bi either, yet you would have him first. I think looking good in both is rare, as Flex demonstrates with his non-existent lat spread and amazing rear double bi. I'm not saying Ronnie's back is categorically better than Dorian's but he was phenominal in both poses whereas Dorian's back in the rear double bi was relatively narrow considering how it looked unfolded in the lat spread, and not 3D like Ronnie or Flex who had a million grapes and oranges hidden under their skin. I think Fux had a great back, otherwise people wouldn't mistake it for Dorian in that famous lat spread pic people always confuse themselves with.
