20 Albert Beckles
19 Melvin Anthony
18 Thierry Pastel
17 Tony Pearson
16 Sergio Oliva
15 Orville Burke
14 Art Atwood
13 Flex Wheeler
12 Robby Robinson
11 Mohamed Benaziza
10 Victor Martinez
9 Michael Francois
8 Samir Bannout
7 Jean-Pierre Fux
6 Jay Cutler
5 Franco Columbu
4 Lee Haney
3 Joel Stubbs
2 Dorian Yates
1 Ronnie Coleman

dorian should have been no. 1,.. his back was the best ever and because of this the rest of him (if we exclude his great calves)always looked weaker than its reality..

ronnie's back can't be the best ever because it was never as hard as rock.. it should have been 2nd..

joel's back is great but not better than haney's or bannout's!!.. of course he didn't deserve to come in 3rd..

jay cutler should not have been in this list!!.. very soft in the rear lat spread pose and not greatly detailed in the rear db..

also why are guys like thierry pastel, oliva, &, martinezin this list!!.. they had good backs but there were a lot of guys with much better backs who were not mentioned.. aron baker for example had a better back than these guys..

fux too should not have been here.. his back was great only in the rear lat spread..

benazia and bannout should have come after dorian, ronnie, &, haney.. anyway they are arabs so no wonder ;)

flex wheeler too should have come in the top 10..

A bodybuilding list that Arnold isn't on?LoL you cant take this list seriously then.
Most are all show no go!

You've gotta admit, Arnold was really all about the chest and arms.

He had a good back though by the standards of his time. But as i said before, after RR, criterias were just not the same anymore.

Arnold had a great back. I'm not taking that away. But the chest and arms were his trademark.

I pretty much entirely agree, apart from the Fux comment in the rear double bi, because Dorian didn't look so great in the rear double bi either, yet you would have him first. I think looking good in both is rare, as Flex demonstrates with his non-existent lat spread and amazing rear double bi. I'm not saying Ronnie's back is categorically better than Dorian's but he was phenominal in both poses whereas Dorian's back in the rear double bi was relatively narrow considering how it looked unfolded in the lat spread, and not 3D like Ronnie or Flex who had a million grapes and oranges hidden under their skin. I think Fux had a great back, otherwise people wouldn't mistake it for Dorian in that famous lat spread pic people always confuse themselves with.

i dont know but I really think at his best dorian’s rear db looked great!!.. I have the mr. o.lympia 93 and 95 videos and his back was wide, thick, huge, symmetrical, and above all good looking..
As for fux his back was wider than Yates and very thick and huge but it didn’t look symmetrical.. may be because he was always off with his condition.. also his arms were big but blocky which was taking a lot from this pose (RDB)..

as for other guys who were good in both the back poses you have samir bannout, francois, benaziza and more..

Half of the list is bulshit. Its "Flex" anyway... ::)

I mean, Melvin? give me a break.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Fux was a monter once.....

I heard he didn't believe in light squats.

lol......really? well, after both of his knees crumbled under that 600+lbs squat years ago, I bet he's now believe in light squatting these days ;D

What the hell is Jay Cutler doing in there, he may be wide, but his back has never been defined, he holds heaps of water in his back and has about 30 skin folds, more than likely from dropping too much weight too quick.  Jay Cutler is soooo Over Rated

Marketable, Jay has the personality of Oatmeal, he is expresionless, monotonous and boring.  Ronnie has way more personality, even Dorian, as dull as he was had more personality.  Shawn Ray had tons more.  Only in America could a man be considered marketable, just because he is white.

yes jay and specially his back was very overrated!!.. nasser's back at its best (his lighter version) beats jay's back at his best (mr. o. 2001)!!!.. and as we all know nasser's back was his weakest (and only weak) part ;D.. so how come to give jay 6th in the list of the best backs ever!!!..

Do the people who read a muscle mag and see that those beautiful aryan features in combination with soft, big bulging muscles see a personality?

No, they see what they want to LOOK like... if its in conjunction with muscletech... they buy muscletech.

Whether you want to admit or not Jay Cutler brings the whole package to the table when it comes to vanity. Who is out there buying mags and enough disposable cash to buy the supplements? The black kids or the white kids?

great job figo, much better list than the stupid one of flex.. but dont you think aron baker too should have a place here!!.. i am not sure but i always feel his back was great (check below).. good choice to include mike quin who really had a thick detailed back at his best.. still i believe flex wheeler should take a better place and fux a take a lower one!!.. also joel should come after samir and benaziza..

Aaron is on at 13th, Flex had a great back in 93, could never duplicate it, Fux had detail and mass beyond belief. Samir and Momo had amazing backs, but to me Stubbs back-wise, is quite something.

This is all very subjective, just like some will say Yates should be 2nd to Ronnie, but we all agree these guys had great backs, Im sure.
