Fidel Castro asks US lawmakers how to improve ties
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:05:15 AM »

HAVANA – A "very healthy, very energetic" Fidel Castro asked visiting Congressional Black Caucus members what Cuba could do to help President Barack Obama improve bilateral relations during his first meeting with U.S. officials since falling ill in 2006.

Caucus leader Rep. Barbara Lee, a Democrat from California, said the ailing former Cuban president talked for nearly two hours with her and two other delegation members on Tuesday in a meeting seen as signaling Cuba's willingness to discuss better relations with the United States.

"We believe it is time to open dialogue and discussion with Cuba," Lee told a news conference in Washington upon the caucus members' return. "Cubans do want dialogue. They do want talks. They do want normal relations."

Lee said the group would present its findings to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a fellow Democrat from California, and White House and State Department officials.

true, but it wouldn't hurt to have a relationship that didn't didn't seek to undermine them with economic embargo and shit.

That is the problem...american has NO RESPECT for Cuba as an INDEPENDENT NATION. america sees Cuba as some sort of RESORT or something...like an extension of Miami Beach. The embargo has been in place for decades and at no time has america given a rats ass over the fact that the embargo has caused such dire direst to the people pf Cuba and I am sure quite a few deaths as they lack much in the form of medicine or ingredients to make what they need. If I were Castro I would keep america as far from my nations doors as possible and instead Cuba needs to welcome business from South America which has plenty of raw goods and natural resources. Cuba is now doing buiness with China and Russia, so I am expecting improvement in their supply of goods from these nations and others. CUBA DOES NOT NEED AMERICA...american will only undermine them if given half the chance.

It would be great if Cuban-US relations improved drastically.
I think it could help getting Cuba democratic in the end.

Well what. China was pandered to because they are #1 trading partner. Cuba has nothing, and is basically a pimple on the western hemisphere. China was politically fellated by the federal government as a whole due to the fact that they are important to us. the 'black cockus' is hanging around Castro to get news time.

I fail to see the connection here.... They are both communist? Aren't they about the only two communist nations left?

US plays ball with communist regimes if it makes us a nice paycheck.

nothing wrong with that, but you can't shit on congress for opening ties with Cuba.  Bush kissed china's ass for 8 years, all while they did all their dirty shit and got in an alliance with iran and russia against the US of A.
