The man oozed intense trained like a beast great small man build he just burned out....not sure if anyone did more shows then him in his prime .

Firstly i want to say Rich was an inspiration to me when i first started training - He had fantastic work ethic, however when you analyse his physique he is rather blocky in the waist with narrow clavicles.

This is comparatively speaking of course...

...he had uneven nipples on his pec's. Really distracting in many poses.

Gaspari had lots of muscle and came in shredded, he just didn't have the frame like Haney and some others - both in terms of size and shape.  If he was a little wider and his limbs were a little longer it would have been another story.

Muscle mass and condition = excellent.
Frame size and shape = not so much.

Still one of the best ever, and he probably should have won in 1987.

Wide Waist, Narrow Shoulders - Gaspari had the symetry of a brick!

great run,conditioning,training full tilt,had stocky italian genes ,took genetics ten fold and ran with it.in jersey the heart attack story surfaced for few yrs ,i don't know what to believe.

I spent some time with him back in the mid 90s. We trained together in Long Branch, New Jersey. He was toying with the idea of a comeback at that time. Very disciplined with his diet and cardio...... the man had conditioning no doubt about it. His physique was not the least bit pleasing! Rich was a little on the abbrasive side as well. Not a real pleasant guy. I think he made it in bodybuilding due to be the most shredded man onstage. Not a pretty physique to look at all...... Just my 2 cents.
