You can easily put a gay spin on bodybuilding cause it does have a lot of (homo)sexual overtones, which isn't helped by the current state of it where the guys wear thongs rather than trunks like they did up until a few years ago. I'd say it all depends on the eye of the beholder - a guy like Bay obviously looks at a posing bodybuilder as an object of possible sexual gratification while a lot of us straight guys just see a big jacked dude who's built like a tank.
So Bay's highlight of the show might be his favorite musclestud shaking his butt while for a straight guy, the same show might provide a spark that motivates him to go train his butt off. Bay would fantasize about the guy, whereas the straight guy would just want to have a similar or better muscularity and perhaps, outlift him cause there is nothing sexual in his perception of a bodybuilder.
Bodybuilding is about showing off an outrageously developed physique, with the fixation being upon the person's looks / muscularity, so it's no surprise that it's a thin line between it being the competitive endeavor it is and something like G4P, which transition is also "encouraged" by the poor revenue stream it generates for the few who manage to climb up to the pro ranks.
