Axelrod Slams Anti-Tax Tea Parties

Sunday, April 19, 2009 3:25 PM

Damn the tea bags. A top adviser to President Barack Obama takes a dim view of last week's anti-tax "tea parties," promoted by organizers in the spirit of the Boston Tea Party.

"The thing that bewilders me is this president just cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people. So I think the tea bags should be directed elsewhere because he certainly understands the burden that people face," David Axelrod said Sunday.

The rallies coincided with the deadline to file income taxes, and gave people a chance also to voice frustrations about government spending and corporate bailouts.

The tea parties were promoted by FreedomWorks, a conservative nonprofit advocacy group based in Washington and led by former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey of Texas, who is now a lobbyist.

Axelrod was asked on CBS' "Face the Nation" for his opinion on what the show's host described as "this spreading and very public disaffection with not only the government, but especially the Obama administration."

Axelrod replied: "I think any time that you have severe economic conditions, there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that's unhealthy."

"Unhealthy?" the moderator repeated.

"This is a country where we value our liberties and our ability to express ourselves. And so far these are expressions," Axelrod answered.

I heard this morning on the way to work:

1.  The Govt is going to take ownership in the banks and not let the banks re-pay tarp money

2.  Obama's health care plan will include taxing peoples' benefits.

I have one word for this:

FUBO!

Really?Obama understands what we are going through? Then how does he justify trying to pass cap and trade which explode our utility bills.Seems he doesnt give a shit about the people, unless they are enviro nut jobs.

I assume the bank partnering announcement is why we see a huge drop in the markets again.

Guess Axelrod doesn't get that many Americans are not just protesting taxation but the dramatic increase in government spending and move toward larger government.  "Tea party" isn't exactly representative of the whole protest.  I see these protests as including:

1. Protesting recent, unsustainable, gov spending
2. Protesting gov infringement on individual rights and the private sector
3. Protesting Overall levels of taxation and the threat of increased taxes to pay for the recent bailouts and bloated budgets.
4. Protesting quasi-socialistic policies being proposed along with expansive government

These are very legitimate issues.

Axlerod is a typical lib liar.THERE HAS BEEN NO TAX CUT!!!!!There is a tax rebate that we will have to pay taxes on.This is a liberal lie!!The tax rates HAVE NOT CHANGED!!!!!I also love it when they say that the Bush tax cuts expiring isnt really a tax increase.Huh?If we are going to have the rates change and we pay more ITS A TAX INCREASE!
