Fedor Emelianenko vs. Shinya Aoki at DEEP/M-1 Challenge
« on: April 23, 2009, 06:32:43 AM »
The rumors are true: MMA's undisputed #1 heavyweight and Japan's top lightweight will square off in a special exhibition match at next Wednesday's DEEP/M-1 Challenge event. DEEP President Shigeru Saeki and Shinya Aoki announced the fight today at a press conference in Tokyo; Fedor was not present, though his manager Vadim Finkelstein and Affliction VP Tom Atencio are said to be in Japan at the moment. The specifications and rules for the bout have not been finalized, but Saeki likened it to this week's K-1 MAX exhibition between Masato and 17-year-old kickboxing phenom HIROYA. (For what it's worth, HIROYA wore headgear and both parties wore shinguards.) Aoki says he's pleased to be able to set foot in the ring with "the symbol of MMA."

Also announced for next Wednesday: Abe Ani Combat Club's Yusuke Masuda (2-5-2) will take Riki Fukuda's spot at 84kg on Team Japan, squaring off against England's Matt "12 Gauge" Thorpe (10-7). Fukuda pulled out of the event in favor of facing Murilo "Ninja" Rua on 48 hours notice at DREAM.8, where he won by unanimous decision.

Don't forget, the entire DEEP/M-1 Challenge show will be streaming over at Japan-MMA. The BE Night Crew will undoubtedly be up in full force for this one

maybe if it is just a submission fight, even like that he doesnt have any chance of winning, but at least will not get killed in the process

WTF is wrong with Fedor ???  He needs to get his ass in the UFC and become a true legend.  And he better do it soon, before his clock runs out.

That homo Dana won't allow him to compete in Sambo. Fedor probably makes more money outside the UFC anyway.

He could become twice the MMA star that Chuck Liddell was and set himself up for life.  All he has to do is give his soul to Dana.

i think fedor aint really interested in becoming as dana puts it ( a rock star), fedor seems happy to live his humble life in russia and more power to him if he,s cool with that. some fighters just really aint into the whole celebrity thing like a tito ortiz, some prefer to just kick ass in the cage and go home and chill out with the family and dont want to be bothered by the whole fame scene. i believe dana,s motto is if you sign a contract and fight in the ufc i own you, some young guys trying to make a name for themselves dont care and will kiss danas ass 24/7, i dont blame them at all cause when you need coin and danas the man who decides what your worth you have to do what you have to do. to be honest, if dana was paying me big money to fight in the ufc and i was setting up my future for my wife and son and was living very comfortable, i aint ashamed to say id be kissing his ass to. everyone has a price and i think if dana throws out the right numbers to fedor he will bend alittle and sign with the ufc, dana knows that fedors presence in the ufc would be awesome for ppv,s,tickets sales ect. i think a lesnar vs fedor fight in the ufc would break all records with ppv buys, i havent been ordering the ufc,s for awhile now cause me and my wife are trying to straiten out are credit so we can buy a little home for ourselves in the next 3 years, im 44 yrs old and should have a house already but i made some bad choices in my younger days and it comes back to haunt you later in life. we all have are own problems and no one wants to hear me crying about mine, lol, but if/when fedor comes into the octagon thats 1 ufc i might make an exception for and order, but alot of it depends on who hes fighting, if they put him in there with some slouch im not ordering it but if its someone like kongo or brock or acouple of those other young up and comers that looked awesome their last few fights id order, thanks for reading cause i know its hard to read my 3rd grade typing style, lol

Call me crazy, but I think Congo can beat Brock.

Fedor isn't coming to the UFC. I have given up hope. Unless Dana takes the stick out of his ass and affliction goes under, Fedor isn't fighting in the mainstream. Its a damn shame too- After Mir/ Lesnar I have no interest in watching the heavyweight division anymore. I mean, does anyone want to see a 43 year old Randy Coture fight a broken down Minotauro? They are both legends in the sport, but they are way past their prime--No matter who wins, its not going to be a good fight. The heavyweight division needs a shot in the arm. Congo is half way decent, but besides Brock and Mir, there is really no one worth watching.

The problem is that Dana & Fedor have never even spoken.  Fedor's managers won't even entertain a deal until they get their "fair share".  Fedor doen't know it, but his people have cost him millions...

I'm sure Dana will say that Fedor doesn't stand a chance against Aoki.

I think one problem is that Dana has spoken, and has disrespected Fedor multiple times.

Some people have principles and stand by them.  No fair share, no fight.

As far as money, it is not Fedor's only or highest motivation.  So, on the contrary, Dana has cost Dana.

Fedor's legacy is important to him.  And, instead of fighting the best in the world, in the best organization, he's fighting light weights, middle weights and circus side freaks.  Come to think of it, if money wasn't so important to Fedor, why is he cashing in on these freak fights ::)
