« on: April 24, 2009, 06:52:29 AM »
I haven't seen either. Both heralded as classics.

Help me come to a decision

Rear Window (1952)

IMDB 8.8 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047396/

The Manchurian Candidate (1962)

IMDB 8.3 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056218/

Manchurian if you like twist and turns suspense is great, the remake was well done. rear window was good but manchurian was a faster pace.

Yeah, both. MC first maybe. Still holds up, except for a laughable fight scene.

Then watch Kubrick's The Killing, just because.

well, if you are a getbigger, you go into your a/v room which has about 4-6 65" led tv's and watch both while two porn stars work you over.  the answer was obvious

Great heist film. Tim Carey is truly creepy.

Yes! Looks like John Turturro, don't you think?

Pretty sure it inspired Tarantino's narrative structure for Pulp Fiction.

Manchurian Candidate by all means. Saw it in film class in college. Great movie. The political "get elected by any means" still holds up today. And the foreign influence behind it. Kind of like the last election.

The Killing was indeed a good heist movie. As was Asphalt Jungle , around that time period. Really got a lot out of black & white back then. Classics without a doubt. Sterling Hayden stared in both. Kola Kwariani (spelled wrong) was a somewhat well known pro wrestler and strongman back in that time. He played the big guy who started the fight in the crowd to keep the attention away from the robbery.

If you want to catch another great heist movie than see Odd's Against Tomorrow. Another all time classic.

Catch Tim Carey in Paths of Glory and watch overacting at it's best. Carey was a acting class buddy with Brando, I believe.

Ahh, movies and television!  Feeding your vacuous head with more emptiness.  Instead, you should get to Barnes and Nobles and pick up The Complete Works of William Shakespeare and a Bible.

Shakespeare and a Bible don't really mix that well. I'm not sure that "We're such stuff as dreams are made on and our little life is rounded with a sleep" was approved by any church.

Both are great movies I agree. I think Carey also played in "Killing of a Chinese Bookie" which is one dark movie.

Help me Jehwit, I just reread Rudyard Kiplings Collective Stories. And familiar with the whole of the Bhagavad Gita as well as the Mormon version of the bible. Would Shakespeare (Bacon?) be a good start for me?

Actually Shakespeare and the King James version of the bible work quite well together. Story structure, drama, Lust, sex/incest, hate, murder and final salvation.  Sort of like GetBig.

Old testament works well with Shakespeare. Not the new one.

Guess you right RZA. Fathers nailing daughters, daughters getting their father drunk and nailing him and the sons nailing all the female members on the family, young or old (Including mom's, anybody's mom) were pretty cool in the old testament.
