When I was a kid, TV shows used to feature controlled demolitions b/c it was cool to watch the collapse of big buildings in such an orderly fashion.

I remember 9/11.  After the initial impact, I told my wife, "It's good to see that the WTC can absorb such a collision."

Then after the towers fell, I told my wife that it looked like a controlled demolition.

That's how it looked.


Thank god my government told me I was wrong.

I understand why someone without an extensive background in science can find the collapse of the towers hard to understand. Not many people work in the industry or have taken the design classes to understand how structures are put together.
There is a reason why most building structures are designed by people with their masters.
Sir Issac Newton has a few good laws on this.

The main being that object will always fall in straight line unless acted upon by another greater force.

Since the main force acting on the buildings was gravity and the building are massive  it stands to reason that they would fall into their footprint.

You have to remember that the top of the building was basically severed from the other floors in towers 1 nad 2. and that additional weight caused the columns to twist and fail.

But still almost all of the external force was gravity which would pull the building straight down.

1.You assume that the intervention were just for the hell of it, there is a reason and extrem Muslims were a problem for centuries, look into Egypt and Jordan, they have inner problems with different extreme Muslim factions for years, long before the US came into the picture.
