Deuteronomy 7:6 states “ For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” This statement by Moses directed towards the Jews implies that the Jews are the chosen people of God, and God is playing favorites among the people of the earth. How could this be though, God is supposed to be an impartial, all loving, and caring being that would never and could never play favorites. With this being said are the Jews really the favorite people of God? There are two simple answers to this question, yes the Jews are the chosen people of God, and no the Jews are not the chosen people of God.
Lets first take a look at the view and supporting factors that the Jews are indeed the chosen people of God. One powerful point is that in the Bible God states that any people who persecute the Jews will be punished, and the Jews will be protected and all who have persecuted the Jews have been punished (Genesis 12:2-3). For example, the Neo Babylonian empire, Phonecian empire, Roman empire, Nazi’s, and Soviets, have all persecuted the Jews. And what do these empires have in common? They have all persecuted the Jews and they have all been DESTROYED.
Also, Jesus was a Jew, and what better people to be chosen as God’s people than the people of his son on earth. Jesus’ first group of followers were Jews, and the word of the Bible has been given to us by the Jews. There are over 2 millions Christians in the world and the Jews are the reason for the spread of the scripture throughout the world, because they were the first people to spread and hear the word of God, without the Jews we would not have felt the influence of the scriptures. Therefore, God has chosen the Jews, his people to spread his word, because they are his chosen people.
Those who say that the Jews are not the chosen people of God say that the Jews do not believe in Jesus, therefore cannot possibly believe in his father either, and are indeed the Anti Christ, and how could the Anti Christ be the chosen favorites of God. Also the Jews crucified Jesus, and how can the chosen people of God, crucify his son. This has been the root of hatred that is dispensed towards the Jews for thousands of years, and the argument that the Jews are not God’s chosen people have been backed up by this statement alone. Others who believe the Jews are not God’s chosen people also say that if the Jews are God’s chosen people, than Christianity is a fraud, and that they have been following untruths for thousands of years.
There is no right or wrong answer to this question, it is simply a matter of your beliefs, but there are definitely strong facts that back up the notion that the Jews are the chosen people of God. If you look at all of the empires that have persected Jews that have been destroyed, and the scripture that backs up these beliefs there are plenty of reason to believe that the Jews are indeed the people of God, and that God does play favorites when it comes to the Jews.
