Benching 225 40 times? How?
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:12:43 AM »
I'm pretty strong on the bench but I don't get how these college players put up 225 40 times.  Shit I'd get tired just moving an empty bar 40 times on the bench.  I don't think I've ever repped any weight 40 times, shit most the of times over the last dozen years I don't think I ever went past 15 reps, unless you count 21's on the bicep curl.

have you ever seen any video of these lifts?  let's just say the form they use is very "loose"

Those guys train for that specific combine test. Most gym rats rarely if ever throw 225 on the bar and just rep out. These kids though train for this specificlly just to get a good result at the combine. I'm sure if you trained for it, you could do the same. The combine guys should really up the weight though, maybe 255-265 for reps. ThosE guys pumping out 35-40 reps at 225, would be a lot less IMO.

I am no NFL star but have done a 225 bench for 26 reps with rapid reps.

Yeah i think they should up it to 315 for lineman. They do train specifically for this plus there form is all bounce and half reps. Techinically they aren't supposed to do this, but if you see any of the videos they all do it.

yea I have seen video's from the combine before and yea there form ain't the best.I got 24-25 reps when I tryed but it was with similar form.extremely strict reps I might only get 16-18 reps.

15 continuous reps is all you need. Keep 3-5 sec rest between every rep, boom, 40 reps. But I don't know if this is allowed in those football tests.

after my workout the other day i done 225x16 very strict very easy. Fresh I could do 22-3 i think.

These guys train specifically for this test.

Also they are also generally 440lb plus benchers so therefore can press 225 easily. I can hit 374lbs as a max so it seems about right

I've done 225 for 40...not that hard if you can bench 450+...and yes I am natural.

Really, benching is about how your body is put together more than anything...if you have the right structure, benching is easy...always has been for me.   Some have it some don't

Just last night I did dips for 60 reps at the end of my chest workout...just for fun

Ronnie is Mr. Olympia and has been lifting for 20+ years.  These guys are 20 years old.  Lifting for maybe 3-4 years.
