LOS ANGELES — If Republican candidates for governor of California are hoping for an automatic high five from the sitting governor, they ought not to get too comfortable.

When asked Friday after giving a speech on health care in which he highly praised President Obama and other Democrats whether he would ever consider endorsing a Democrat to replace him, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “It could happen, yes.”

The governor offered no specifics on any particular candidate he might support.

Mr. Schwarzenegger, estranged from the leaders in his state party and at odds with some national Republicans on matters fiscal and environmental, remains a powerful figure in the national party, with his celebrity status and engaging speaking style. While low in the polls, he remains a governor voters are highly attuned to.

His political career is like a greek tragedy. His first two years he was arguably the best governor in the country. But after those 4 propositions he proposed in 2005 crashed and burned, he was demoralized and felt he had to compromise with Democrats to get re-elected. California has gone down the toilet ever since. But hey, he engaged in "bipartisanship"!!!!!.

The state is nearly a nanny state, I don't know how anyone can turn California around and stay in power. Arnold may have caved but California is a very liberal state.

Arnold is a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

No non-radical liberal can get elected in Cali these days thanks to rampant immigration, Los Angeles and the Gay Area. LA and SF can carry that state by themselves at the ballot box.

All moderate and right-wing politicians in sacramento get rendered ineffective by the left-wing circus we have going there. These fool liberals have actually outspent the 7th largest economy on the planet.

Yes,and banning black cars will clean it up.So will cap and trade.Heres the problem,as long as China,India and Russia arent on board its useless.All it does is punnish Americans.By the way,Id like to see REAL facts on just how many people have gotten sick from pollution.I know Al Gore will blame anyones sickness on it,but Id love to know REAL facts.,My bet,its the same crap as eating eggs will give you a heart attack.
