UFC and the IFBB (Liberatore Speaks Out)
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:19:15 PM »
in the last couple of years, bodybuilding and MMA have become more involved with one another

since the UFC has such a huge and growing fan-base, it seems like a good arrangement for the IFBB

in this months issue of MD, Mike Liberatore disagrees:

"I watch the UFC and I have nothing but respect for the fighters, but I just don't think it's a good fit to have all that mixed up with what has traditionally been 'our' thing as bodybuilders. The UFC fans can also be a difficult bunch to be around. You have a lot of them who have maybe taken a few classes walking around like tough guys with shirts talking about how they hurt people or will kick your ass or whatever. Some of them look like the only thing they can knock down is a glass of beer."

I think Mike makes a good point

And bodybuilding is a whole lot different than MMA?  PLEASE.  Look at all of these guys who patrol bodybuilding shows who look as if they've never lifted a weight before.  Mike is trying to act like bodybuilding is more than it really is.  Get real Mike!

Mike seems to forget he is a bodybuilder?  Memo to Mike - you are no better than anyone competing in MMA.  Stop acting like you are holier than thou.

Wow a great spokesperson for bodybuilding.  Keep these wanna be tough guys out of bodybuilding expo's.  Bodybuilding has been around longer as a sport and is completely different than MMA.  Would you have football and baseball in the same stadium...NO!

It funny how the IFBB clings to the UFC and mentions this so called partnership whenever they get the chance, but the UFC has never mentioned this "partnership" with the IFBB on any telecast.

Probably because bodybuilding competition is pretty fucking gay.

Bodybuilding fans are bigger fans of UFC than UFC fans are of bodybuilding.

The funny thing is....both industries have scumbags. What's the difference between the 115 LB twink decked out in Tap Out Gear, who thinks he's a tough guy, and a blown up drug ingesting midget, who thinks he's a bad ass cause he's on drugs?

I guess what Liberatore means is.....he wants the shows to be strictly for Schmoes from here on out. The MMA Fans don't buy sessions.....

what's gayer, men watching other men pose on stage, or men wrestling men in a 8 sided cage while hundreds of other men watch?

That's tough. Big difference though.....one has men in tights, wrestling and punching each other, so there's at least legitimate athleticism required. A combat sport.

The other has oiled up men in tiny trunks, flexing, dancing, posing and gyrating for a crowd of schmoes....a male pageant at best. But really, just your average Saturday night gay strip show....with the participants too dumb to get paid for it.

You exemplify Liberatore's point. How many bodybuilders want to hang around with little guys with attitude problems?

The Liberator guy does make a valid point.  It's basically the same thing we all laugh about with the wannabe MMA guys with an Affliction or Tapout shirt who is ready to take on the world after watching a couple of UFC ppv's....

Real Athlete right there folks!

Impressive oil and tan job.  With a build like that he's probably making more than that little midget Manny Pacquiao!

BTW Pacman/Hatton is rumored to have gotten 2 million PPV buys and gross the most $$$ in boxing history ;D
