He was robbed in that Olympia 1983,look on youtube for the decision footage,the crowd go mental when he is put in 5th place
Some people said it was because he was English (kinda) and the olympia was in germany that year,who knows
He faded after the 1984 olympia and soon after was pretty much out of competative bodybuilding

He was in a store with his wife and mom and they were talking about the '83 Olympia. His wife said something to the effect that Bertil wasn't good enough to beat 180 pound bodybuilders like Zane and that's why he got 5th. Bertil lost it pulled out a gun and blew her away. Then the mother screamed at him, "Why did you do that..you freakin' monkey..Shit you couldn't even beat Makkawy and he was only 150 pounds...Loser!!" Of course he shot her as well.

260 pounds monster with LEGIT 22" upper arms at his largest. The man was benching 505 pounds for reps and 365 pounds seated military presses. Was WAY ahead of his time and was criminally overlooked...

Ya he deserved to win in 83, without a doubt got screwed. Weider factors personality in to the scoring without admitting it, which turned out to be a good decision in this case!

Haha...I thought he went to her house accused her of cheating, and shot her and hetr mom when they tried to flee...?

BTW....Bertil lacked refinement and true shreddedness to ever win the big one.

Oh, and by the way....his afro was too big...it obscured the width of his shoulders....same problem RR had to rectify on the Grand Prix Circuit.

Ya his best would have been a little more cut like he was a few years earlier, but even so should've won in 83-he was as or more cut than Samir, with more size and balance and deserved to win.

They were still in the era of refinement, of which the likes of Dickerson, Zane and Bannout had much more. And the 3 aformentioned were far more eloquent than Bertil=better spokesmen. Competing in NABBA all those years did not help Bertil, either.

wouldnt say he faded after the 84 Olympia, did not compete in 84 and 85 Olympias, his last contest was the 94 ironman after which he opened up a gym in Saint Kitts which is where he still is in jail.

Many think the reason he did not always get fair placings was because he was very successful in NABBA,Mr Britain,Mr Universe 3 times, and AAU Mr World, he also competed as a Pro in WABBA, we all know how the IFBB can be.

I remember seeing pics of this black dude with a big fro. He was a bodybuilding writer or editor or some shit. He was pretty damn thick with big arms. Can't remember his name.

He might have competed a bit back when Charles Glass was still competing.
