Getting Dizzy - is sugar to blame?
« on: May 15, 2009, 02:15:26 PM »
I had a soy milk for breakfast with leftover gluten free spaghetti and turkey meatballs, then I got to work and had a cup of coffee with about 3 table spoons of sugar.  I went to get lunch at 1:00 and got really really dizzy feeling in the car like I couldn't see.  I went to Chipotle and had three Chicken Tacos with rice, corn, and lettuce.  Then about 20 minutes later I checked my blood sugar with one of those testers that you poke your finger with.  My blood sugar was 90.

WTF?

I've been dizzy on occasion from standing up too quick but never just sitting in the car.

Could my cup of coffee this morning with all that sugar have been to blame?  I stopped drinking Coffee again about three weeks ago because it makes me so shaky and the cup today really got me wonund up for a couple hours.

 ??? ??? ???

i agree with Princess.  Low blood sugar also generally comes with profuse sweating and jitters.

I get the same thing after doing squats.  Actually there are many times when I lay down and when I get up I feel light headed for a few seconds then it passes.  It seems to get worse when I am either really out of shape, or cutting ( running on low calories ).

The thing is, unlike high blood pressure, low B/P is defined primarily by signs and symptoms of low blood flow and not by a specific number. Some people may have a B/P number of 90/50 with no symptoms and therefore do not have low blood pressure. However, others who normally have high blood pressure may develop symptoms of low blood pressure if it drops to 100/60.  For that reason, doctors often consider chronically low B/P too low only if it causes noticeable symptoms.
Yes, low blood sugar could be a cause of the low B/P, but there could be a whole host of other reasons too.  Then again, it could be nothing at all.

I feel much better today.

I also realized that I was really dehydrated yesterday.

Thank you all for the helpful information!

i get the same feelings from time to time but never checked my blood sugar or anything like that...i had blood work done recently and everything checked out so i guess im good...usually when i get dizzy its the day after i go out and have one too many drinks but i've done the same things in the past and never had any issues with it....i guess im getting old and cant handle shit the same way...go to your dr. bro and have some routine tests and he'll ask you all the routine diabetes/hypoglyc. questions...good luck bro and it may have been a fluke
