Barring injuries & sickness, I usually just listen to my body.
If I feel chronic tiredness, lethargy, or seriously dread several workouts in a row, then I’ll take a week or two off.
That happens, at most, 2x/year, usually less - if at all.
Sometimes it can be good for your head and body.
If sick or injured, I don't return until I'm better.
I want my immune system working at 100% capacity.
