That was a good promo.
I’ve never heard him work a mic. outside of his Demolition days.

montague, Superstar was great on the mic.  He was a heel who rarely raised his voice.  Felt that it made a bigger impact when he did.  More psychological promo's like Roberts and AA.

If I remember correctly, you’re Canadian, yes?
If so – and depending on your age – then you were treated to some excellent pro wrestling courtesy of the Hart family.

I know Stu brought in a lot of topnotch talent, having ties with Japan, England, and Mexico.
Stampede Week was a “who’s who” highlight:
Nelson Royal
Andre
George Takano (The Cobra)
Harley Race
Sayama
and many, many more…

Stu & his sons seemed to have quite a knack for spotting talent. More than a few of their guys went on to make names for themselves – many of them being trained in “the dungeon.”
There were one or two Japanese wrestlers who helped train Bret and some others, but their names escape me – I think one was called "Mr. 'something.'

But there were a lot of incredible guys who passed through that territory.

Nah, I'm American.  I always tried to keep up with Stampede thru the old mags....pre-internet days...I'm getting old!

And it had to be brutal for Stu to train someone.

Only if you like the gymnastic lucha style, which I personally don't.  I prefer a more "believable" style and Rey is WAY too small to be impressive in that regard.  But to each their own.

Mil Mascaras was way over-rated.  I'll take Superstar's "superplex" over a bodypress any day of the week... 8)

There were more than a few guys who didn't like working with him, either.
Not sure that they liked him.

He was too big/slow to duplicate the style of the of original Tiger Mask.

Good wrestler; but he was no Sayama.

You're right!
Not a talker, but a DAMN GREAT mat-worker!

Liger combined the best elements of the Japanese and Mexican styles.
Dynamite Kid recalled seeing Liger in Japan when he was a “young boy.” Those kids started training very young, and if they fvcked up, the trainers would beat the piss out of them with a cane.

Dyno predicted great things for Jushin, who got even better when, like Sayama, he added a great deal of Lucha-type moves to his arsenal after spending time in Mexico.

Hell yes!!  Loved him with Boris Malenko as his manager. His billed weight at that time was 270, which was just short of "giant" at the time...at the time, the only Mid-Atlantic guys that were bigger were Blackjack Mulligan, Swede Henson (who always lost  lol), Crusher Blackwell, and Andre the Giant when he came to town.

I remember as a kid hearing about "Mil Mascaras"...I thought his name was Bill Maskeris and had no idea he was Mexican.

When I worked for a local indy promotion I was very surprised to learn that you could pay upwards of $150+ for a good professional grade mask.

Collection of masks (only):

Ultimo Dragon

Tiger Mask

Jushin Liger

The Machines

Mil Mascaras / Also doubles as a Ninja Turtle costume mask ;D

“Spidey-man” / Name changed to avoid copyright infringement

The always intimidating Doko Chan

The Chimpanzee Man

Superstar was soooo ahead of his time.  A guy with his size was usually just a big, immobile brute...but he could really mat wrestle and had the awesome "swinging clothesline" "cobra clutch" "superplex" and the "swinging neck breaker" which was  fullnelson where he just yanked the poor guy around....

Most people don't realize how old he was when he did the Demolition thing.  He was a star in the mid-atlantic area from the mid 70's on....

Just the time I've been watching wrestling. I'm not a historian and never strayed far from the Federation. But I think Rey as well. This guy is/was fearless. Those NWO boys used to lay a hurting on him. I saw Nash powerbomb Rey so ferociously one night. And some of the stuff Big Show has done to him. He's got the look. His tats are pretty bad ass. A little man in a big mans sport. Rey gets my vote.

He's really good, no doubt, but he's no Liger.

Liger was taking on big men when Rey was still dripping down his momma's leg.

I’m glad you liked it.

It’s always refreshing and respectable to see guys who are capable of that kind of stuff, yet look like more than just a couple of Mexican jumping beans in the ring.
