Abso-fucking-lutely, probably the best and most fascinating book I've ever read. After that book you're not the same anymore, you'll see the whole world through different eyes, I promise.

Can recommend basically everything by Bret Easton Ellis (except for "Rules of Attraction" maybe, that one sucked imo)

That was exactly the wrong order my friend.

The movie is the biggest bullshit compared to the book. When you regard him as something completely stand-alone that it's ok, but NEVER make the mistake and compare him to the book, it's almost upsetting.

Doesn't that go for all movies that were made after books?

You simply cannot compare the two.

Great book, definitely one of my favorites.  Bret Easton Ellis is fascinating as he utilizes absolutely amazing detail to describe everything from clothing to murders.

Probably in many cases, right.

For me this one was simply upsetting because I was so passionate about the book. The movie simply can't capture for one minute the sick, nihilistic atmosphere Ellis creates in his books. I mean this book really shows you how senseless and empty life is, that there is actually no point in being. :D

For those who have read it, would you recommend reading it even if you've seen the movie, or would it just not have the same effect anymore?

Read it, but try to forget about the movie as good as you can. You can still keep Christian Bales face in mind tough, I think it fits pretty well.

Good point.

The book was fantastic, and, if you can believe it, the movie did not do the violence justice.

You get a real feel for how screwed up he is.

How are you gonna walk into a bookstore outside the US and, in an American accent, ask if they have a copy of this book?  Bonus points if you are wearing an American Beauty tshirt and eating apple pie.
