I've got a $200 dollar Schwinn that I really enjoy riding from time to time.

Maybe you should try a Mercedes Benz bicycle?

Nobody should spend that much on a bicycle unless their name is Lance Armstrong.

yea, you can get an really good bike in the 400 range is you're wanting some quality.  These other bikes are carbon fiber and titanium for pros.  Not needed if you're just out to ride a few trails.

true, but I like lightweight bikes.

another thing I wouldn't mind is a light weight ... high end quad with pedals so I can sit down / lie back and get some exercise.

What kind of rider are you?  How frequently are you going to ride this bike?  You really need to be honest with yourself when answering that last question.  For the kind of money you are talking about, and depending on how you plan to use the bike, it may make more sense to get two (different kinds of) bikes rather than one.  I have a Trek 7300 and for my purposes it's great.

A buddy of mine who is hard core when it comes to riding has 5 different bikes (two Konas, one Cannondale, I forget the rest...)

I hear "electric" bikes are the hot new thing now.  They are equipped with a small battery and enough power to get you over steep hills when you're too tired to do it yourself.  You can find info about them online.

What kind of rider are you?

Are you looking for a road bike, mountain or hybrid? What will be your typical terrain and distance?

I like my TREK 7100 - would've went for the 7300 IF they had my size and color in stock at the time  :-\ - I was too impatient to wait  ::)  A typical ride is anywhere from 16 to 40 miles at a crack, sometimes on the road or a paved trail and sometimes on a gravel trail.
