Very.

If only he'd still been in office - he'd have been able to implement what he learnt & really save GM...

oh boy.... getting deep

Karl Rove writes: Bush Is a Book Lover.

With only five days left, my lead is insurmountable. The competition can't catch up. And for the third year in a row, I'll triumph. In second place will be the president of the United States. Our contest is not about sports or politics. It's about books.

It all started on New Year's Eve in 2005. President Bush asked what my New Year's resolutions were. I told him that as a regular reader who'd gotten out of the habit, my goal was to read a book a week in 2006. Three days later, we were in the Oval Office when he fixed me in his sights and said, "I'm on my second. Where are you?" Mr. Bush had turned my resolution into a contest.

In 2006:

At year's end, I defeated the president, 110 books to 95. My trophy looks suspiciously like those given out at junior bowling finals. The president lamely insisted he'd lost because he'd been busy as Leader of the Free World.

In 2007, Rove also won, 76 to 51. And this year, Rove is ahead 64 to 40.

And this:

Each year, the president also read the Bible from cover to cover, along with a daily devotional.

I did the math. Bush read 186 books in 1,095 days, for an average of one book every 5.9 days. And these aren't thin novels. They're lengthy (mostly) non-fiction books. Obviously, Bush's presidency wasn't a full-time job.

Note: I read 57 books in 2008, for an average of one book every 6.4 days.

He's a smart guy. He went to Yale and Harvard Business.

I'm also reading "Netherlands" right now, and it's taking me just as fucking long as Obama (but it is very good).

What did that set the Bush family back in donations to those institutes to make it happen?

 ;)

Thing reeks of total Rovian Politics of inventing or re-inventing "character".

In 2006, with Bush's post-Katrina approval rating at 37%, Rove and company devised the George Bush Man of Letters strategy to try and improve his image and the Bush vs. Rove reading challenge was born. On August 20th of that year U.S. News & World report ran a story, "A humbled presidency," in which the new intellectualized George Bush is introduced. In the piece White House aides claimed that President Bush had already read 60 books and Rove had read 50.

As Pierre Tristam noted in his November of 2007 post Behind Charlotte Simmons' Burqah: What Bush Reads, Bush would have to be reading more than two books a week. "At 350 pages for the average book, that's more than 700 pages a week. Assuming the man reads 30 pages an hour, that's at least three hours a day of book-reading."
Tristam calls it "the myth of Bush as a one-man Library of Alexandria."

Also, according to the 2006 final results, Rove read 60 books from the middle of August to the end of the year to get to his 110. He would of had to average more than 3 books a week to get there, a mere 3x his stated goal of reading a book a week in 2006.

Well maybe I am, as Rove suggests, a small-minded critic devoured by bitterness but this just doesn't add up. If Bush and Rove truly wanted to share their passion for reading and love of books they could have been a lot more vocal about it. Think of the online book social network and community building possibilities? Think of all that potential and needed revenue for authors and publishers that could have been had if they would have shared their reading lists with the public.

olbermann beat oreilly among viewers 18-34 viewers last month.  in fact it was the top rated 8 pm cable show.

OReilly still gets the old folks, I suppose.

Only one of these men chose to abuse their substance while in office.

Apologizing to the world endlessly and embarassingly is bad enough.  I wish he were drunk, maybe he would not make speeches that are filled with utter pap and nonsense.

I used to have a video of Bush picking his nose in public. I swear you'd think the guy was drilling for oil.
it was one of the most embarassing and disgusting things I've ever seen a politician do in public.  :-X

Really?I know that in May 2008 he beat Oreilly for ONE week and that was because FOX covered the primaries and Oreilly was on vacation on a Friday and Ingham guest hosted. However,I have not heard that before that month or since that month.Make sure you have your years and month correct.I believe that"vicory" was in 2008,NOT this year.

Unlike Bush, Obamas cocaine use didn't hinder him.  He wrote books.  Books without pictures.  Books that little bush couldn't understand.
