Serotonin Levels
« on: June 04, 2009, 06:06:20 AM »
I have been taking lexipro perscribed by my doctor to increase my serotonin levels.  This is supposed to help me with my response to stress and depression.  I was wondering if taking gear has any affect on serotonin levels.  I am midway into a bulking cycle with great strength gains (first cycle) and so far I have not noticed anything.  Any input would be great.  I am aware that increased test levels might increase in gym and out aggression levels and I believe this was the case when I experimented with Superdrol and MT 1 a few years ago.

THANKS GUYS

I take Wellbutrin and Prozac and cycle all the time.  They don't interfear with one another.  If anything the gear will make you feel even better than just the Lexipro alone.

It's complicated. Steroids have effects on several neurotransmitters, GABA, Dopamine and so on.
Steroids can make you feel even better but they could also make you feel more agitated, anxious and stressed out. Depends on the compounds, dosage and your mental make-up.

Very true!  Biochemistry of the human is complicated.  You just can not introduce a drug and expect a single response.  Change one thing and many others try and compensate for a return to homeostasis.  This is good, but gives drug developers headaches I'm sure.

A respected poster from years ago here, did a thread on gear and neurotransmitters.  We were looking if gear could have a addictive effect cause of the way it influences the neurotransmitters.  If i remember one conclusion was that gear will heighten the effect of other drugs you maybe taking recreational because of dopamine response from steroids.

Yeah I remember some of those studies. Testosterone increases the effects of cocaine through the dopamine system.

If there's serious mental problems it's kind of hard to recommend adding steroids to psych meds, especially heavy stacked cycles where hormone levels go up and down.

O/T but what I always found interesting was the idea of doing antidepressants to bring an athlete out of "overtraining". Since overtraining symptoms are pretty much the same as depression symptoms some docs had athletes take them to bring them out of a period of poor performance. There was some marathon runner a long time ago who credited Prozac for his success after a period of poor race results.

I might agree with that statement because when I miss a day of my meds and then take necessary action to catch up with dose and half doses my strength and focus totally go out the window.  With the test Ive been on for about 5 weeks I still get that feeling.  I hate taking the meds anyway cause they affect the quality of my sleep but its what I have committed to for now.
