This might be fun. Name a wrestler then give your opinion on what his/her best match was. Post the match if you'd like. I'll start

yeah, its the Hell in a Cell. The street fight he had with him was great too. 2000-2001 he was untouchable IMO. I like the shoot too, i watched it a while ago, i liked his stories about working with his dad.

They did have a good series of matches.
I feel that both guys were at the top of their game there.

One thing I noticed about the street fight was the barbed wire 2x4, and I caught this right away the first time I witnessed the match…
There were two different boards – one with real wire, and one that was “fake” wire. Hunter used the real one on Mick and really sold its authenticity by purposely snagging the barbs against Mick’s shirt. It was almost overdone to prove the point, and the wire began to unravel.
Somehow the board was moved to either under the ring or the announce table. When Foley later retrieved it, you could see it looked like a different prop because the wire was wrapped tighter and neater. Basically, Hunter got hit with the gaffed (“soft”) wire while Mick was sliced and diced with the real thing.
Good match, and I should remember it for more than that stupid board, but…

Foley may have even discussed that in his book #2; I can’t remember. But I know he wrote about the gaffs in the cell he and HHH used.

I always liked the match Mick and HBK had at the In Your House PPV in, I think, ’96. Shawn was primed and Mankind was lighter, younger, and in better shape overall.

My favorite match....HHH vs. Shawn Michaels streetfight when Michaels made his comeback to the WWE at Summerslam 2002. Action packed and the crowd went balistic.

I don’t know if it’s the best, but it’s certainly one of them for both of these guys simply because they compliment each other perfectly.
The Malenko boys were both trained by Karl Gotch, and you can see that here more than ever. Definitely some of the most realistic looking “work” I’ve ever seen.

Mass, what is your pick for DiBiase?
He was in some high profile feuds.
The guy had good mat/ring skills, but I don’t know that he had an aptitude for playing heel in the ring.

That “Million Dollar Man” gimmick was great. That, along with his mic work, firmly established him as a heel…
But Ted never wrestled very “dirty” in the ring. He was more of a textbook technician – didn’t do much in the way of hair pulling or eye gouging, etc.

It’s almost as if the only reason you knew he was a bad guy in WWF was because of his character and not his ring style.
Good character delivery and solid ring skills; it’s just the two didn’t match.

I was thinking its weird he had so many feuds JYD, Hogan, Jake, Virgil etc.. no match really pops out. I would say his match with Andre vs the Mega Powers at SS

Ultimate Warrior.

my fav. match of his was vs Rude at SummerSlam 89.

amazing match.

with all the bad press about warrior these days, its easy to forget how popular he was back then.

check out the fan reaction upon his entrance. crazy.

check out the press slam from the ring onto the floor at around 4:30 and listen to the famous Jesse Gun rant on Tony hahaha so classic.

Jesse hit it on the head at about 6:00 in when he said, “Warrior don’t know how to wrestle in the ring.”
That comment’s a bit rich coming from Jesse.

I loved Rude’s schtick.
Laughed my ass off every time he did his ring entrance - when he had the mic and got to the part, “…is to have all of you fat, out’a shape Atlantic City sweat hogs…” and the camera would show the most inbred, fat, white trash, hillbilly “Cletus” looking guy in the audience.

Classic!

And I know we make fun of UW’s ring work, but you’re right in that few guys could pop a crowd like he did.
I just think his ego got to be too big for his own good.

look how hot that crowd is. there is a crazy pop to every blow, every count.

when was the last time the WWE had an event with a crowd like that?

Times have changed.

Just about everything humanly possible has been done, so how do you keep it interesting?
Plus audiences are just more demanding in general these days.

If guys used Warrior’s & Rude’s style of working today, the fans would fart on it.

I was always a huge mark for Malenko and Benoit.
Used to study hours of their footage – particularly from Japan.
I consider this to be one of the best outings for either man during their stint in WCW:

One of my favorite Hitman matches – Summer Slam @ Wembley Stadium.
IIRC, Bret said years later that Davey was in pretty bad shape, especially towards the end – all blown up.

Considering Davey’s size and conditioning, I would speculate he was very gassed, which may have played a factor – I remember Ken Shamrock once suffered a similar situation upon one of his UFC returns.

Some good psychology and story telling in this match:

Several guys have mentioned that Smith was seldom much of a leader in the ring; usually more of a follower. In his tag matches w/ Dynamite, Dyno did most of the thinking for the team. And in singles – provided it was with another ring general – it was often Davey’s opponent who called most of the shots.

But Bulldog was a great worker because he was cooperative, safe, had tremendous physical ability, and could always deliver whatever was needed.

Once again illustrating my bias towards favoring a pro/amateur style, here is one of Kurt Angle’s better matches – really in his environment; especially with the talent he had to work with here.

I always felt that Kurt made the transition to pro better than Shamrock. Kenny never seemed to fully grasp the whole “work” concept. Angle also definitely had a better aptitude for using the microphone.

Here’s a much forgotten about match from early in Randy Savage’s WWF career.
Not to take anything away from his WM III program with Steamboat, but this one is often overlooked.
I also liked Macho’s match with Ted DiBiase at the following year’s Mania.

I was at the 2003 Royal Rumble where Benoit and Angle had a match. By far the best i've seen in person.

Exactly what I was going to say. Great match. Michaels was awesome in that match. Great ending with the small package for the pin. The leap off the ladder onto the announcers table was awesome. I remember Michaels as he was climbing the ladder pointing to his head as if to say that what he was about to do was crazy....
