The U.S. has lost 2.2 million jobs since President Barack Obama took office. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the total number of jobs nationwide fell from 134.3 million at the end of January to 132.2 million at the end of May.

The unemployment rate now stands at 9.4 percent, up from 7.6 percent at the end of January.
 
“I think my initial measure of success is creating or saving 4 million jobs,” said President Obama on February 9.
 
Monthly job losses reported by the BLS are as follows:

Mar:     663,000
Apr:     539,000
May:    345,000

Now,the last two months the losses have slowed.However,as the other poster posted,how many more jobs can be lost in the construction sector.There are only so mant people working.Again,the stimulous was supposed to create jobs,NOT slow job losses.It has  failed.It has not saved or created ONE job.Record deficits,inflation looming,deflation looming,a government take over and thus the wrecking of health care,he has failed and he will coninue to fail.He needs to go back to being a community destroyer like he was before,because as of now,he is a nation wrecker.

He really doesn't deserve credit for this. Only 5% stimulus money has been spent. Outside of that he really doesn't have an economic policy for us to say "Hey now, this shit is really working the way he said!"

And I don't mean to rail on you or anything but it leads back to what he promised with the stimulus, what he said the budget was going to hinge on etc. It really gets capped off with the original "the stimulus will create x amnt. jobs" which got, ever so subtley turned into "the stimulus will create or SAVE x amount of jobs" Now, there is no way to prove jobs saved or ,because the stimulus hasn't even really been spent yet, jobs created. Which is perfect for the admin. All of the economists on his team know that saying the stimulus will save jobs is a crock and if they weren't in politics at this point they would never be caught uttering those words.

It really is brilliant because all the admin. needs to say after another month of half a million job losses is say "Hey, it could have been 1 million jobs lost if not for my Stimulus Plan!". Even though there is not a shred of evidence, proof or statistics that can prove it.

The dow is up a bit...thats a good sign, but is only one indicator of what is going on.

With the insane amount of $ that was spent on the stimulus, TARP and other bailouts, we should be seeing dramatic recovery if these programs were worth while.  We have seen a little improvement in the dow but experienced greater unemployment than predicted by the Obama administration, worse national debts, appears like there will be less growth than predicted later this year, a devaluation of the currency with all the money that was printed and the gov has imposed its will on private industry.

The market isn't necessarily going "up" because of the fundamentals are improving. Lots of involvement with major institutions and the Fed with a boatload of printed money.

Unemployment still high and will probably go above 10%, oil/gas going up through $75 per barrel/3.00 a gallon.

Not to mention a doubling of interest rates on treasury bonds. And higher mortgage rates.
