Republicans are supposed to be the party of shrewd badasses.  if someone "offended" reagan, he'd respond with a glib one-liner and totally own the person, and get back to his job.

This is now day 3 of the "Palin is offended" campaign.  First she had right-wing radio hosts speak for her.  Then it was her hubby talking about how letterman doesn't speak for mainstream america.  Now it's palin herself, crying about how all women are owed an apology.  Oh brother.

Man up.  If you want to run a country, you can't be continually involved with tic-tac drama with Couric, Levi, and now letterman.  Perhaps she's prepared to run the Department of Hurt Feelings, but when Putin or Ahmedijahad or Chavez delivers tough talk about the USA, will miss palin be talking about how "offended she is on behalf of all americans?"

Letterman doesn't write his own material.
They should have fact checked. Seeing that they had a photo of the daughter in New York and I am pretty sure they could find a photo of her family.

The biggest issue I have is that the joke was made in the first place.


These types of jokes were also used against Hillary to devastating effect.

To reiterate, the joke only makes sense if it's about the older daughter... who has a history of getting knocked up.  From a factual standpoint, you could make the case that only the 14-year old was there, but that probably isn't something most people would have been aware of. Letterman doesn't really have a reputation for sexually controversial material.

If I told someone a story about "Sarah Palin's daughter",  very few people would ask me to clarify which one I meant. Most people would automatically assume I was talking about the eldest, based on the one tidbit of information everyone knows about her... that she got knocked up.
