Nope.  But if he said it, that was a good thing.  Kids of politicians should be off limits.

Even if Letterman was talking about Palin's older daughter, it was still in poor taste.

Obama: "People's Families are Off Limits"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(MONROE, MICH.) - When asked to respond to Sarah Palin’s announcement today that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, Barack Obama sternly said the story is irrelevant to the presidential campaign.

“I think peoples families are off limits and people's children are especially off limits.”

Obama addressed the press after he attended a Labor Day picnic here. Although he intended to give a statement on Hurricane Gustav, Obama was quickly asked about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy.

“My mother had me when she was 18 years old,” Obama said, adding that families should deal with these issues privately. “That shouldn’t be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off limits.”

Obama said he was offended by comments from a McCain advisor suggesting that his campaign may have been spreading rumors about Palin on the internet.

“Our people were not involved in any way in this and the will not be. And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they’d be fired.”

Thats fine, but we are not doing that because we are broke and there is nothing left as it is.

I wouldn't say America is broke.  In debt yes but not broke.  There is the man power available for producing these things it's a matter of making it happen.  That's all it is.  I can't never got anyone anywhere.

palin's older kid put herself out there as well, doing the abstinence tour, etc.  however, letterman was mistaken and thought she was the one at the game.  he apologized.

Palin can't accept the apology (and the win) here.
She's probably going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by letting us hear about how offended she is on the news cycles for 2 weeks.

This reminds me of the August 2008 polls.  Palin was a star and mccain was up a few points everywhere.  He was gonna win the thing.  Then, she started talking.  Every time she did an interview, her approval rating dropped, and so did mccin's lead.

she reminds me of biden.  would do much better with things by simply taking the win and zipping the lip.  Doing a 2 week victory lap on the morning talk shows about how offended she was about a joke he already apologized for... that'll turn people off.

Now I'm a conservative, but letterman isn't in the wrong here.

it was a joke about palin's oldest daughter, any idiot can see that. One of the writers just saw the headline that Palin and daughter visit yankee game or whatever and the writer just didn't indulge in the matter much further. They have to come up with new material every day so it's not like they can check everything they say. I don't think its much of a stretch to say that Palin is using this just as a chance to still stay relevant. Palin is the one thats spreading the idea of someone raping her 14 year old daughter, because letterman said nothing of the kind. Instead of letting it go hoping no one would notice, she's bringing tons of attention to it. I didn't even know that palin had 2 daughters. Letterman didn't even know bristol's name on the show, so i doubt he knew of the other daughter either.

I watch letterman every night and I didn't find the joke particularly harsh or anything. I mean its just a typical joke he does. I don't see why people are putting "right wing, left wing" spins on this. It's his job to take stabs at people, he's been doing it for 30+ years. It's late night, what do you expect? Palin put her whole family on the platform for people to take shots at when she decided to run as VP and she was aware of this. She can't expect to be immune from late-night jokes and she knows the same applies to her family. That's the media for you.

With that being said, I would love for her to go on letterman. Letterman would own her. You think Palin would learn from McCain's mistake. Don't make letterman mad.

U don't matter TA, thats the difference.  Oh because Letterman apologized its ok. Oreilly apoligized as well but that didn't matter...LIBERAL HYPOCRISY!!!!

Do you actually perceive the ramifications of either commentary as equivalent?   :-\   ::)

Letterman: People laughing at an obviously fictitious scenario that spotlights a politician's fuzzy thinking

 vs.

O'Reilly: A law abiding citizen being gunned down in cold blood in a violent premeditated murder.

Seriously, ...let's get a little perspective and use some common sense shall we?
One would like to think that as a military man, you would know how to pick your battles,
...but I guess you just put the punctuation on Straw's sig line by not thinking, but simply following orders.  :-\

Go ahead....are u going to quote from that NASA idiot who's own people think is deranged. We read the science reports to TA, u don't have a monoply on all things global warming. Why's AL being very quiet as he tries to get legislation past. Maybe because if a light is shown on it..enough real scientists will gather in front of Congress and illustrate why Al's full of shit and stands to make millions if all this BS goes through.

{lol} Just because you can read them, ...doesn't mean you can understand them.  :P

And the official term is Global Climate Change.

There are forces in this world that are bigger than us.
We can scream about them, protest them, denounce them as much as we want, ...but we will not change them.
We can scream about the coming storm, ...or we can learn to dance in the rain.

I don't dispute the possibility that Al Gore is positioned to profit as countries & people all over the planet respond to the challenge that addressing climate change poses, ...but that doesn't make his position on the matter deceptive in any way, and it certainly doesn't make it BS. Quite the contrary, it illustrates strong support for the notion his beliefs vis-a-vis climate change are sincere.

If you were convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the patriots were going to win the superbowl,
...you would bet on them wouldn't you? Would telling people of your beliefs, and sharing compelling evidence illustrating why you believe what you do, make you a BS artist simply because you had positioned yourself to profit if they did win the Superbowl? Is that sufficient reason for people to dismiss you as a BS'er?

Remember when Obama told everyone to lay off Bristol Palin and said ENOUGH!  Then going on to explain how his own mother was an unwed teenager when she had him and that families are off limits.

Obama's mother was not an unwed teenager when she gave birth to him.
She went on to be a single mother, ...but she was not unwed.

exactly - Letterman doesn't write his own stuff and probably even see a photo/video.

here's a pick of the Palin kids and I can easily see where the two older daughters could be mistaken especially if they were sitting down onr your could only see the face.

so - what's more likely?

an honest mistake or an intentional joke about a 14 year old kid

Corrected - you sick bastard...

did letterman respond tonight?

If so, Palin will be back on FOX news on Monday "further explaining how offended she is".

oh brother.  STFU and focus on your state's shitty economy.  Honestly, Alaska woke up with high unemployment today to learn their Governor was spending her day on NBC crying about a fvcking comic, after what was invariably two days of prep for it.

But hey, she's now an advocate for "women offended by bad jokes".  I am sure these kinda skills are what is needed for the NKorea mess right now.  Maybe in 2013, as President, she'll go on TODAY and complain to matt lauer how offended she is that Kim Jung Il Jr is firing missiles at us, huh?

Little wonder why there are no Conservative comedians. They are just too babyish to be even remotely funny.

Don`t let any of these conservatives here discover someone like George Carlin, they will melt for years.

How about Limbaugh?

Funny.. Yes, but not a comedian.

His humor is unintentional buffoonery.

Letterman can be very funny.

Palin adds nothing but misery and ignorance to our landscape.

Screw all you old ladies and limp noodles that try to make Letterman an advocate of rape.

You are the problem.

He adds something to the mix.

Palin and her ilk diminish us all in disgrace.

I'll take the funny any day of the week.

satuday, she called letterman's response 'weak'.

She can't just take the win.  She has to keep going back and forth.  This is what, her 4th public response to letterman?  at some point this turns into a Rosie/Trump debate, and she actually legitimizes his position by debating him repeatedly.

yes, really.  It's like the NASA scientist who argues with a homeless man on the corner about UFOs.  After about 2 hours of listening to them debate, you're probably starting to see some of the homeless guy's points.  Instead of the NASA guy taking the win in 30 seconds with "There is no proof", he stays in the corner just cause he likes to debate.  Over time, people start to doubt his credibility on it.

People are going to see the 7th and 8th Palin response to Letterman and say "Sure, maybe letterman got the kid wrong, but the whole 'getting knocked up' thing... he mighta been right on that one..."

palin, stop talking.  take the win, letterman looks like shit.  But every day you remind us how evil he is, he receives some "get over it alreadY' pity and you look like a whiner without the balls to handle Putin, iran and friends.

Really, this it the sort of "I'm so offended on behalf of 3 billion people" talk that you expect from soft-wit libs.

Republicans are supposed to be the party of shrewd badasses.  if someone "offended" reagan, he'd respond with a glib one-liner and totally own the person, and get back to his job.

This is now day 3 of the "Palin is offended" campaign.  First she had right-wing radio hosts speak for her.  Then it was her hubby talking about how letterman doesn't speak for mainstream america.  Now it's palin herself, crying about how all women are owed an apology.  Oh brother.

Man up.  If you want to run a country, you can't be continually involved with tic-tac drama with Couric, Levi, and now letterman.  Perhaps she's prepared to run the Department of Hurt Feelings, but when Putin or Ahmedijahad or Chavez delivers tough talk about the USA, will miss palin be talking about how "offended she is on behalf of all americans?"
Yes but he attacked her daughter not her.  Attacking someones kids is a low blow.

QFT!  It looks like she's desperately trying to stay in the limelight. When the Palins rebuffed Letterman's invitation to be on the show, after turning it down, they added... "besides, we want to keep our 14 yr old daughter far away from Mr. Letterman."  It appears as if she's hoping to wring as much publicity out of it as possible. And it comes across as rather opportunistic, if not hypocritical. She didn't seem to take much offense when Jay Leno made a similar crack about her then pregnant 17 year old.

Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant.
And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it.

60% of people who exited polls (but a FOX/Edison moffit poll) said Ms Palin was not even qualified to be VP.

I think that may have influenced things just a bit ;)

Also he suspended his campaign to push every debate back one week and reschedule the VP debate (date to be announced, which meant never).  This little side effect was noticed by much as a real shaky move.

Wrong.  McCain lost because the independents and moderates fled his side after he brought on Palin.  She killed the election for him right away.
