Thumbless grip by Brucey.

I benched 325x5 on my own yesterday feeling very run down. 330x5 I think I have in me.

My father threw up 400lb at age 15 back in the mid sixties.

paused for 10 seconds at the bottom and was laughing the whole time.

Funny, for the doubters on here think about this. Out of the hundreds of thousands of gyms in America, don't you think that there are people out there that throw up HUGE weight everyday that no one even knows about? Just because they aren't in record books doesn't mean they don't exist. As far as I'm concerned, the one ones in the record books are fraction of the lifters who can put up big numbers.

I was 23-24 with the 535. The 400 was done in the gym, it wasn't a one time lift, it was done on a pretty regular basis. At that time I was training with Rory, a dude named Eddie Holms and Ellis "spanky" Evans. We were training at Olympus Gym in Whittier and Montebello and Muscle Digest gym. Donald and Gordon Wong were there as well as Lou Zwick.

The Ugly is also friends with someone who saw my lifts. The Ugly, you know who I am referring to!
Shit! You must of been a beast once you hit your prime.........I'd say you were at least pressing 700lbs raw and 900 shirted by the time you hit 30..........You are simply amazing!

This thread is as full of shit as the one about the military press, but 2 guys at "Get Serious" did over 400 as naturals while we were there.  Pat Holloway did it, and the other guy, I forget his name, that tore his achilles.  Do you know who I'm talking about?  I don't know how much Pat did raw, but he did over 6 with a bench shirt on.

Edited to add:  Just remembered his name.  John Peru.

BTW, in answer to the original question, 405 as a natural is damn good.

I saw Tom Klitzke do a 500 bench off 1 board at 165 lbs raw in that same time frame.  Damn impressive.  His best was 465 if I remember right.

Ha I got a bud who is the same. Sounds almost like a clone of my friend 5'7"-8", 25yrs old diabetic. Benches around 425-440, is that natural or can they manipulate their insulin injections to help. Its not like a nondiabetic takin insulin whats the deal? Very curious. The answer to the question  405 natural is very impressive , to me at least. Not uncommon though. Has everyone become so jaded about juice that you forget what great genetics get you or even how some people are built for bench. I always been destined to suck at bench, 6'1" with a armspan like someone 6'4"-5". I abandoned flat a long time ago for incline and every once in awhile I get curious and do flat and am always disappointed.

If you're a 400 pounds slob who has pre-ordered his piano case for his funeral... no!
