Can you just calm the fuck down for a minute?  There already have been consequences. Who is talking about reparations or adding fuel to fire? Slavery has impacted the USA. If one cannot learn the lessons from history (which is altogether different from a history lesson) there will be further consequences. The bottom line is, no you didn't create it, ...but you did inherit the mess. So the sooner you deal with it, the sooner you will be able to put it behind you as a nation. Once you move past the knee-jerk defensivesness and look at the legacy that has been left you as a nation, ...the sooner you will be able to put it past you, ...until then, it will continue to be there affecting the lives of all Americans everyday, ...whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

Wow,that was deep. How about this,we all stop bitching about injustices of the past and move on.Work hard, raise good families, and mind your own buisines.Perhaps if blacks concentrated on lowering their out of wedlock birth rates, that might be a better solution then a bunch of gutless cowards appologising.

I support the motion, but I don't think many Americans will like the cost.

Once this goes to the supreme court with Liberal judges.
Reparations will be next.

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation/story/1104271.html
Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., the Senate's lone African-American, went to the floor after the Harkin resolution passed and said, ``I want to go on record making sure that that disclaimer in no way would eliminate future actions that may be brought before this body that may deal with reparations.''

We have been going through this in Canada where we Apologized and offered Cash Reparations for Indian School Abuse and the Chinese head tax.

Bah, Roland Burris, the assclown who was "selected" by the now impeached governor of Illinois because of the pay to play scandal. I don't think we are going to have to worry about this useful idiot much longer. Word is there is some bad shit on taped conversations between Blago and him.

Whether anybody alive did it or went through it, does not change the fact that all Americans have inherited the consequences of it and must deal with it.
what mess exactly did we inherit jag?

if these ancestors of slaves are having such problems dealing with the after effects of slavery im sure they could go back to their home country couldnt they? shit id be willing to help send their stupid asses back id give money for that...again this shit doesnt affect ppl today to the extent that it needs to be brought up and apologized for...Im half japanese that doesnt mean i run around bringing up internment camps do I fuck noooo.

I actually think its reasonable to have an official appology from the gov for historical wrongs that were condoned by our government.  We now have official written appologies from the house and senate...long overdue.
However, any preferential treatment (affirmative action) or talk of reparations should stop.
There were many unjust things that have happened in the last century...we must learn from them and move on as better people...all of us.

I agree.

Let's look at the opposite.

The gov would say that it was OK?

This way it may be easier to look back at the history of the country, since it's so clear that this and that what wrong.

It's laid out.

And sort of dealt with.

Anyone noticed how much less we've had to deal with clowns like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson ever since Obama became president?

No matter if Obama will suck, that will at least be something we can comfort ourselves with. 8)

My family had slaves in North Carolina in the 19th century.  I demand a goddamn apology from congress for the unconstitutional seizure of personal property, and I also want reparations, with 145 years of compounded interest as well as a punitive settlement for lost income.

bullshit.  It's not my fucking fault.  The only thing that should come out of this is a history lesson, not consequences.  Consequences only serve to add fuel to the fire.  Get fucking over it for fuck sake.  All people have been subject to extreme injustice at some point in history.  It is valuable to learn that history.  It is not valuable to make people who had nothing to do with it, pay for it.  All you do is piss off people and like I said, add fuel to the fire.  So STFU about it already.

Yo check this out chief. Im gonna type like i talk. But check it out. Without slaves, the America you know dosent exist today, in every way, socially, economically and another ally. Take for instance you have a business selling shirts over seas. You dont pay any of your employees anything vs. your competetion who has labor as part of their overhead. You would do much better that them right. Yeah thats the US as we know it and how it got to be a power. Now...Tell everyone that you now that the guy who made the shirts dosent have to be treated like a human at all. And for them to even want rights as a human is a dream because it is LEGLISLATION that makes them less than human. When that leglislation is finally out the door you say "well they are gonna be treated like humans but they will get the worst of everything, and if they ever try to make something of their own...well just burn it down (see blackwallstreet Tulsa OK, east st louis etc) and then look at the lasting effects and say, man get over it already. With all due respect bro. You can kiss my buff black ass with all that. Police beating up people because they are a certian race. Burning down churches with kids in them, killing non violent protestors...sheeeit that was all post slavery, sheeeeeit you got it fucked up.

i can agree with that to a certain extent
also understand that if you are here b/c of slavery your life is exponentially better off then if your ancestors had never been brought here...like many have said theres no need to appologize in this day in age. I think more then enough appologies have been made to suffice for the shit that nobody here was around to endure or commit. Again how many japanese ppl you see running around yelling about internment camps? none they got on with their lives and the same needs to be done with the ppl who are obsessed with this shit... Mal,your on your way to becoming a doctor.YOUR very life is PROOF that if you work all of that is overcome. No one is saying that that didnt set blacks back, however, this is a new age and time.If you can become a doctor, why cant the next guy.

Now,the last rash of church burning we had in thois country were committed by a nutty black guy down south.Anyone can concentrate on bullshit of the past but what good does it do?The best revenge is what your doing, beating the fucking system and going back to help the next guy do the same thing. If enough continue to do that then all of that past history wont mean a dam thing.

im fully with that.
Im not gonna compare injustices because thats kind of wack. But all im saying is that it was like systematic destruction of a race over many years. But with that i do think we need to use successful Blacks as a counter weight to all the bull shit said about what we cant do and then try to acheive the same success. But to say "get over it" is like kind of wild im my eyes.

The way groups of disadvantaged (or oppressed) people have overcome their situations is to move forward and develop adaptive strategies and behaviors.  The best way to overcome is certainly not to obsess over the plight of ancestors.  Many people that came to this country were poor and/or oppressed, thats why they came here.  The degree may not be the same, agreed.  Slavery was aweful but aweful for everyone, the Africans who chose and sold slaves, the multi-nation traders, and the slave owners.
There would also be less resentment going forward if groups of people did not focus as much as historical wrongs.  We have acknowledged (and teach) about the ills of racism in this country.

Well these are 2 differnet things, the United States did not set out on a mission to exterminate all black people like the Nazi's did the Jews.

mal thats what needs to be done bro the whole part of the AA sub culture that plays to the oppressed beat down man who is held down by society is just retarded. Everybody faces challanges, everybody faces oppression ppl need to quit thinking their situation is unique b/c of their race and get the fuck over it. In truth the ppl that subscribe to that way of thinking are their own worst enemy.

Im not saying lets not talk about im saying quit brining it up like it plays some relevant role in todays society. It doesnt it happend over a hundered years we as a nation have moved passed it sadly a number of the AA sub culture has not they use it as a crutch to justify their short comings instead of taking personal responsibility.

Really, so your saying that every person from the African continent was sold to American slavers, and wiped out the African culture forever? And while we are on the subject how did American's get the slaves, sail over to Africa and just grab um out of the jungle?

To simply say "get over it" isn't right.  Everyone must recognize the historical evil of slavery and the impact it had on the people and their families.  The Jim Crow laws were also bullshit but most of us here did not live through that era.  However, blacks in American are not the only people (or place) that slavery existed and this has been dead for 150 years.  Black folks in England have done a much better job of moving past historical wrongs because they adapted better than some in America.  How a people overcome is to develop skills that move them forward.  Maladaptive self-destructive culture prevents upward growth.

Jews are a great example...they are hated and oppressed by many in the world, yet the average Jewish person is probably smarter and more wealthy than your average person.  They have strong supportive families and have developed the skills to fight past oppression.
