Marijuana Causes Cancer, California Regulators Say

SAN FRANCISCO — Marijuana smoke has joined tobacco smoke and hundreds of other chemicals on a list of substances California regulators say cause cancer.

The ruling Friday by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment likely will force pot shops with 10 or more employees to post warnings. Final guidelines are expected by the time warning requirements take effect in a year.

The listing only applies to marijuana smoke, not the plant itself.

Spokesman Sam Delson says the state agency found marijuana smoke contains 33 of the same harmful chemicals as tobacco smoke.

Delson says the findings came from a review of more than 30 scientific papers.

California's Proposition 65 requires businesses to warn consumers of chemicals that cause cancer or reproductive harm.

This has been known for some time but the risk is almost certainly less than cigarettes. Someone may smoke a few joints a week vs 1-2 packs of cigarettes per day. Neither are good, but cigarettes are worse.

I don't know if that's a factor. Not sure if the studies they've done that mention issues with psychosis, testicular cancer, etc. take this into consideration?

Being a "mids" kinda guy I always thought the vaporizer didnt work well with my shitty weed. Care to reflect on that? I don't like buying expensive dro unless I'm getting a deal on it so a vaporizer is a tough decision. I suppose it it made me use less it would make sense but I'm a chronic smoker.

Until marijuana is legalized on a National level I don't think they should have to post shit about it being cancerous.

Its new to me...only 2 weeks. I only use when my joints hurt or if I lose my appetite after my workout (which happens to me a lot)...I had REALLY shitty and OLD (2 months) weed that I tried and got hit like a hammer. It was like smoking for the first time. You do have to play with the temp though and find which works better for different types of weed. Moisture in the weed will also play a big part.

I just like not having to cough my lungs out on a huge drag. No smoke = no coughing.
